So there is a line about the next 4 years leading into Rogue One. Is that 4 years of show timeline that will be all in season 2, or is that 4 more seasons planned of Andor?
I guess I'll hit this with a spoiler tag to avoid any issues, but Gilroy has talked about all of this in interviews so it's public knowledge.

4 years will pass in season 2. This is the last season and leads right into Rogue One, just like Rogue One leads right into A New Hope.

Trying to avoid some of these special looks as they often end up spoiling things. I am rewatching season one right now. Dang this show was so good.

I just finished my rewatch of Season 1 this morning myself. Maybe even better the 2nd time, honestly. Not just a great Star Wars show, but just a great TV show period.

I just got done with Andor episode 5 and just keep being amazed at the writing in the show and stuff I'm picking up on rewatch I had forgotten about. This one from Nemik in episode 5 got me:

"It’s so confusing isn’t it, so much going wrong, so much to say, and all of it happening so quickly. The pace of oppression outstrips our ability to understand it – that is the real trick of the Imperial thought machine. It’s easier to hide behind 40 atrocities than a single incident."

Those Gilroy brothers are pretty good writers. The Luthen monologue. Kino's prison uprising. The Maarva funeral speech. So much good stuff.

If you count Nemik's manifesto voiceover in episode 12, I'd argue season 1 of Andor has the 4 best monologues in all of Star Wars.

I still remember the first time I watched episode 10 and the way Kino's speech made me feel.... but then to follow that up in the same freaking episode with Luthen's? My lord, it's absolutely amazing writing and acting.

Rewatching Andor, the dialogue is so well written it's hard to believe it's of the same franchise as Attack of the Clones. The worldbuilding is great, the props and costumes really contribute to the feel. Looking forward to Season 2.

The thing I love about Andor is that it’s serious. No need for comic relief. I was a little kid when the OT came out. And so were many of the directors and show writers these days. I remember playing and imagining stealing the Death Star plans and what the clone wars looked like. It’s about time they came up with an actual adult SW. I mean, it’s war…doesn’t need to be funny.

The funny thing is Gilroy isn't a big Star Wars fan, and maybe that's a good thing. As he puts it "creators can "lose their way" when they get too caught up in Star Wars lore and fan expectations".

Themes of oppression, radicalization, and rebellion were always core to the Star Wars story but not explored all that much in the movies and tv series. It's great to see someone create something poignant and topical with Star Wars.

I love Andor. It’s nice to have a show that is very different than the normal Jedi / force centric show as a change of pace

Agreed. The biggest mistake they made with episodes I, II, and III was they tried to make it too kids friendly to sell merch and attractions at the theme parks. Completely ruined the series.

OT the only comic relief was the droids and that’s all that was needed. Prequels could have used a normal alien and not the goofy jar jar. And there was no reason to include R2 and 3po. Just come up with some new droids. That would have changed the whole thing.

One thing I’ll add about the prequels…younger fans don’t realize what it was like back then. We had SW movies in 77, 80, 83. Then nothing for 16 years and for most of that time, no hope of getting anything new. And then TPM came out and everyone wanted it to be good so badly. Not that it didn’t have its good points, but I remember walking out of the theater wavering between trying to talk myself into thinking it was good and feeling like I was punched in the gut. Lucas really messed those up by going too heavy cgi and too catered to kids. The OT was not too adult themed for me back in the day. I think that he vastly underestimated kids and their ability to process adult themes. Andor is really the first SW that I recognize as being similar to the OT feeling.

I could have wrote a better script for those movies than what Lucas came up with. Guy had too much power and didn’t allow anyone else to help with rewrites.

The organic characters got in some pretty good lines too. It wasn't all droids. Examples:

Would somebody please get this big walking carpet out of my way?
Aren't you a little short for a Storm Trooper?

Lots more, but those are the first two that came to mind that didn't involve droids. :}

Absolutely true. The thing is, the prequels and sequels did not have the Han Solo type character. Someone who doesn’t give a crap and cracks jokes under pressure. Everyone in those movies was either too formal by position or just too stiff by nature. They screwed that up from the start.

What about the universally panned JarJar Binks? I'm probably one of five people on the planet that actually liked him.
For me, the problem with 1-3 is that there was zero chemistry between Anakin & Amadala. The kid version of Anakin was kind of annoying, and IMO the only characters with any personality (good, bad, or indifferent) were Obi Wan, Qui-Gon, Mace, Palpatin, and Jar Jar.

I'm just starting Andor, 2 episodes in. Meh so far. Does it get better?

I felt the same way when it came out and now it might be my favorite Star Wars movie/show.

You have to watch the 3rd episode, that’s where I got on board with it. Then the arc in 4-6 hooked me for good.

Also if you really want to geek out and get some really good discussion on Andor, it’s inspirations, and how it relates to us currently I can’t recommend the podcast A More Civilized Age enough.
