I don't mind the witches or showing how different cultures interpret or name the force. How many earth religions have different names for the same concepts? You think it would be common for the force to be interpreted differently around the galaxy. I just think they tried to do way too much and go in depth when it wasn't really needed. The episode could've started when the twins were preparing for "The ascension" and cut out the first 20 minutes.

My main issue with the episode was that we only have 8 episodes for a full plot and it seemed like that 40 minute episode could've been a 15 minute flashback, and then we could've continued with the main plot.

Books are different than film. As far as film within the last decade there is a stark difference in quality takes when building upon previous works. I mean, its disheartening a bit when you watch interview with cast and directors recently who dont even really understand the material. Theres a bit of a divide growing. Andor was good, takes itself seriously and it was written to back the movies. Ahsoka delved more into the novels and such, but ultimately still ties to the world previously built. This is at the very least semi-pure in nature.
Its not just books. Clone Wars and Rebels were huge in setting the current lore of Star Wars. That's where Ahsoka comes from as well the idea of force witches and the fact that there are still jedi and force users running around all over the place even after order 66. Basically it seems like every new movie or series does something to change or retcon canon. I'm fine with it. It's more or less a comic book storyline which I think is fun and keeps things fresh.

Or when Ewoks were a pretty terrible idea and then they came out with Ewok movies unrelated to the greater stories. Ha!

Imagine if adult fans had been connected via the internet to complain about the 80s Droids and Ewoks cartoon series. I do love the intro music to both though.

The question is has it ever been done or could it ever be done?

Which series of tv or movies or combination has ever grown to a massive quantity of content without major dips all over the place in quality?

LOTR? the hobbit movies are a mess, a 9 hour movie of a book you can read in 5 hours. Rings of power are a mess. The new animated theatrical film could be great

Game of Thrones? The author didn't even finish the book series. The quality of the last season dips, but the new new series is solid. I mean I can't believe I read those 5 books and there just won't be an ending other than the TV show somebody else wrote.

Star Trek...REALLY all over the place for quality. The best series tend to suck for 1-2 years before getting good.

MCU? Maintained good quality for what it was (it was never oscar worthy stuff) but has really gone off the rails for quality.

Probably just too much studio interference. The almighty dollar can cheapen the product. Glad to hear Marvel is pulling back a bit, wise move.

This just isn't true. Gilroy flat out said he doesn't even necessarily like Star Wars.

Well somehow he nailed it. Kudos to him. Clearly he is levels above some of the recent writers.

He's one of the best writers in Hollywood, and like most times if you hire the best people and let them do their thing good things happen.

There are only so many masters of the craft though.

I saw the incels on Rotten Tomatoes are giving terrible reviews to a completely unrelated movie called “Acolyte”.

Such authentic passion.

We can be sure at this point incels and Russian troll farms are going to review bomb pretty much anything associated with Star Wars.

Was Ahsoka treated this way? I don’t remember hearing about it.

Well said.

I didn’t mind the “ideas” or culture presented, as different points of view, and mysticism, different cultural references, etc. - all are a great way to expand the universe and allow creators to be creative. We all need more of that.

The episode though just …wasn’t good. The twins were very annoying and just b*tched the entire time. It all felt unnecessary and dragged on.

In fairness, I will say though - the best way to judge an episode is after the season is completed. They likely will come back and fill in some gaps the episode left - like how a tiny little fire turned into Independence Day and everyone just decided to…die.

I’m with you, but I think we’re both idiots.

That was so bad it retroactively made the first two episodes much worse. Maybe there is some master plan here that makes all of the backstory make sense but it’d be a miracle to fix it.

Not this bad, no way. I’m not a huge Star Wars fan, I like it, but it’s just another movie series/expanded Universe to me. Yet, I’ve been constantly bombarded on YouTube, where I watch 99% racing or sim racing related material, with “The Acolyte sucks.” I’ve said it before, too many Star Wars fans have built this idea of what Star Wars is or should be, they can’t be pleased anymore.

So much this. I am a massive Star Wars fan, and we suck as an overall fan base. I’ve enjoyed almost all of the Star Wars content put out save a few. Even then I find parts of the ones I don’t care for that I still enjoy.

I used to make fun of Trekkies but man that’s a way better fan base now.

My (probably unpopular) opinion is overall the Star Wars stuff on D+ has been better than the Marvel stuff on there. None of it has been amazing by any means but I've enjoyed it all which I can't say for the Marvel D+ series' so far. Last weeks episode for The Acolyte was pretty meh but I think you needed to establish who the twins are but it could have been done better. This week the episode was pretty good, felt like it lasted 5 minutes instead of the 30 minute run time.
