Standing for the Whole Game

I sit on my butt all day at work. I prefer to stand at FB games and I'm 40yrs old.

Ridiculous that folks complain about how others express enthusiasm for ISU.

Some of our fanbase is pathetic sometimes.

and what about those who will not see any of the game if they're behind you even if they stand? The person who has to sit for part of the game still can see the game, which is what everyone paid for. Go join the students if you want to stand the whole game.

The fact of the matter is, is that those who stand and bother people like yourself are likely not going to change their habits, and they shouldn't be forced to either. Especially considering there are quite a few people that act like this.

If you still can't see the game and you have a serious problem with it, then move or do something else. You have to realize that you're at a college football game and people are going to be really into the game. That's just the nature of the sport.

nope. how about i just continue to stand in my section. again-i care about me, myself, and i. and if you don't feel the same way about your life-that's your problem not mine. there's a saying that i love, and i'll quote it below. read it, take it to heart.

Man—every man—is an end in himself, not the means to the ends of others. He must exist for his own sake, neither sacrificing himself to others nor sacrificing others to himself.

I suppose everyone has a right to be a ****** bag. Doesnt mean its a good idea.

The wave is dumb. Quit doing it please. It takes people's focus off the game. Do it at half time or before the game.

And if you are going to do the stupid wave, do it at the right time in the game - when the other team is on offense - NOT US! It's meant to be distracting. We're on the field trying to run plays and the idiots are doing the wave.

Unbelievable to me that you actually had to take the time to explain to this to someone.

Many times I'm one of the first to stand in my row/area. Usually people follow. But guess what? If they dont, I sit down.

Why? Because the game experience isn't about ME.

This is an excellent point. While I personally don't like the trend toward mandatory standing (or being accused of not being a fan), I recognize that this battle is being lost. Therefore, I'm adjusting to the growing emphasis on standing through the whole game whether I like it or not.

It isn't about me. It is about being a crowd that supports the team. I just wish that we could be a little more strategic about it. The whole "Iowa State fans get on your feet" is part of making a difference by rising up at a crucial time. Going from a quieter crowd that is sitting to a much louder crowd that is standing is a really valuable part of being the 12th man. Our team is losing some of this benefit by having so many stand for so much of the game.

Stand if you want, sit if you want, it's college football. You're not being selfish by standing or sitting. If someone has a legitimate reason for why you should sit down (they are disabled/really old or have kids that can't see) then I'd respect it, but other than that I'm not going to sit down and ruin the excitement of the game because someone of good health can't handle standing. We aren't watching Cricket, this is football!

I have no problem with enthusiasm. But i do have a problem with the 'tough guys' who think theyre so awesome for standing when the rest of their section is not (though that section will be up for big plays), and completely disregard their fellow cyclone fans who will not be able to see the game if they choose to stand the entire game. Have some courtesy.

THIS!!

After last night, we've lost any chance to ever be labeled as a "knowledgeable fan base".

Let's face it, people are going to complain about something. This has been a complaint every year. It is has grown old, like me, I'm almost 40 I'm almost a man.

Yeah, it started as a complaint, but the bigger point in my original post was the role of the crowd in supporting the team. Standing and making noise for the whole game seems to be much less effective than more strategic use of standing and making noise. Hence, the role of cheerleaders, announcers, and scoreboards.

Sorry, but I personally do not feel obligated to curb my enthusiasm because you want to stay sitting.

Real fan support and passion can affect the game. It is VERY obvious when the fans are sitting on their hands and not supporting the team.

Both enthusiasm and apathy are contagious. Which one do you want spreading throughout the fan base?

This is also part of the problem I have with Sweet Caroline being played at the crucial point between 3rd and 4th Q. That is the point, especially in close games, that you want the most energy, not the most warm fuzzy feelings.

I know some fans love it and I like the student section involvement, but make it a tradition to play it after wins. Also, it looks completely stupid when it is played when we are losing.

The same goes for Hey Baby. I am a former band member so I have a soft spot for the song, but not the timing. Again, play it after wins.

The main point, if you want to sit, that is fine, but do not harrass other for standing. I have had friends physically manhandled for standing and cheering their hardest. Ridiculous.

It's common courtesy - you know, the thing that seperates us from the animals?? Following the same thought, if I "personally do not feel obligated to curb my enthusiasm" and take a dump on your shoes, I guess there is nothing to stop me.

If people are sitting, and you are standing - you are the *******. People who are sitting are not disturbing you / can not disturb you - you are disturbing them

First quarter, first defensive series. Got yelled at to sit down, exact words were "skinhead, sit down". A couple things...

- Our entire row and those ahead/behind us were standing.
- Skinhead is very much the derogatory term (IMO).
- Jack Trice Stadium is not a library or church.

Really ticked me off...I have no hate toward this old man but I do think if he wants respect he can also show it.

His actions simply motivated us to stand more. If you want to sit for the game, there is the couch at home or box/club seats.

This is pretty much my take too. I'm never gonna ***** at someone for standing, but if you're the only one in the section standing, I really don't understand your thought process.

Luckily I'm blessed to sit near more courteous people.

Myabe I have the solution: Geezers of the world, stand up! Punks, sit down! :jimlad:

Seriously, let's respect each other and make our decisions on things like this based on what is best for the team.

we have lame fans:
They don't want to stand. They would prefer to just have free seats. They do the wave and cheer while our offense is trying to run plays and then sit on their hands when the defense is out. Have of them prefer to drink the third quarter rather than watch it. You can tell ISU has never been very good because our fans are as football stupid as you can get. These same people then can't understand why big schools think we don't belong in their league.
