Staiger

One thing I noticed he didn't do as much this game that I have seen the last couple games is driving to the hoop like he has the last couple of games. He has done that pretty frequently the last couple games and kicks it out to an open shooter. I'd also like to see him take it all the way to the hole a couple times because he had the shot on those drives, but kicked it out needlessly. If he masters that skill I think it will open up a ton of stuff on our offense, in addition to help keep his defender off him a little bit because he's a threat to go to the hoop.

There was one time tonight he could have easily taken it all the way with a left handed lay up but then passed it to the corner and then we turned it over immediately.

Great game from Lucca, that 3 in the last minute and half or so was clutch with 20 seconds on the clock left.

Just got done watching Mac's presser. He specifically said he doesn't want Lucca driving to the hoop much, that he wants him to pick his spots to do this, but that will happen infrequently. He said that just as he doesn't want DG shooting threes much, he doesn't want Lucca driving much, either, as that's not his role right now.

Interesting. It seems like he is one of the few people who CAN drive to the hoop, and McDermott doesn't want him doing that? I don't understand that. He has shown us that he CAN do it somewhat regularly, and I also wish he would take it all the way a few times just to prove it. We NEED guys that can drive it to the hoop. It adds another threat to your offense.

I'd like him to drive to the hoop too but he hasn't really shown it yet. I honestly can't remember a time one of his drives to the basket has ended in a good shot for him. It's his dribbling that needs work I think. He just gets way too ahead of himself sometimes.

Staiger has as pure of a jump shot as Iowa State has ever had. I know, I know...Willoughby (who I loved), Hoiberg, Nurse, etc...but if you break down the technical part of how he shoots it, it's pure. Really fun to watch when he heats up.

Maybe he wants to protect his 95 per cent knee.

Alright, then lets see some of these broken over the next few years.
http://www.cyclones.com//pdf6/49485.pdf <---ISU 3pt records
at the pace hes on he is averaging 2.65 made 3's a game and is on pace for 82 made 3's this year. take that times 3 that 246 made 3's career, 24 short of sullivan's mark. now we have to account for the fact that lucca has not been at 100% all year and hardly saw the floor the first few weeks, so i think the all-time records arent out of reach for him. Barring major injury i think he will easily pass willoughby for 2nd most all-time.

he only needs 8 more to break into the top 20 all-time at ISU in made threes.... he could do that in one game

He has a really unusual set of shooting stats. For the year 23 2-pt field goal attempts, 104 3-pt shots, 6 free throws. I don't know if we have ever had a player where 78% of their shots (including free throws) were 3's.

Sullivan had to be damn close.

Don't know if anybody noticed but the crowd was getting pissed when he didn't shoot.

Needs to work on his open floor ball handling/descision making...Try a jump stop.

Lets keep in mind how great DW was. He did his damage in two seasons.
