STAFF PICKS: West Virginia

WVU has a solid defense but when I've watched them nobody has really stood out as a game changer. I would say Stills is probably the closest thing they have on that side of the ball. Offensively I think Doege is pretty pedestrian so if we can limit the run we should be in good shape

Boy, do some folks know how to reach for a reason to be a downer.

Last week the picks would have been one-sided, aside from the guy who actually lives in Texas, and has a not so subtle unconscious bias because of what he’s surrounded by.
Line's now under 7 (6/6.5) the world thinks we'll come out tight, so there is legitimate reason for concern. My rosey glasses see a blowout but that doesn't necessarily make it true.

Had WV kicked FGs they probably would have beat Texas. I think we win by 10.

WV will be pumped up for this game. we need to get that killer instinct and let Brock run when nothing is there. he adds a whole different dimension to this offense when he can run. defense just keep doing what you do. bend but don't break. Thank you Seniors !

Hmmm. I'm not typically a downer. Let's just say I'm cautious. I don't expect us to lose. But I didn't against Louisville either.

I think it's completely fair to be cautious, considering all of the factors leading up to this game. Emotional road win last week, while WVU has had weeks of physical/mental rest. Senior Day. More pressure to win another big game. The ISU fanbase still dealing with that decades of heartbreak.

WVU is not a scrub team. We will need to play decent to win. People forgot how a few plays can really swing a game. What if our defense starts allowing all TD's instead of forcing FG's? What if we turn it over as we are about to score, or give up a couple long TD bombs. You hope we come out and play how we are capable, but you never know for sure.

A lot of people raving about WVU's run defense but guess who is better? Yep ISU. ISU has a very salty defense with really one weakness, the long ball which WVU doesn't look very good at. I think ISU matches up very well offensively and defensively might not be that close.

One other thought I had. Teams have got to be putting a ton of attention on Kolar as they continue to scout us. Need Hutch, Shaw, Milton and other guys to win 1v1 battles when they have those opportunities. And I loved Purdy's poise and decision-making last week. No reason he shouldn't have a few good scrambles each game.
That attention has opened things up for Iowa State's "blocking Tight End". I know Soehner is much more than that, but that was the perception of many before the season started. People don't expect a guy who is 6'7", 270+ to be able to get down field, get open and make sure catches - to say nothing about throwing a good ball. ;)

I think WVU scores zero touchdowns, Cyclones score 3 on one drive, and Dekkers gets some playing time! :)
