A terrible “spot” for the Cyclones considering the following: Coming off of an emotional win, West Virginia on extra rest/prep and Senior Day. I truly believe that if Iowa State wins, the Cyclones will end up in the Fiesta Bowl (even with a loss in the Big 12 title game). There is so much to play for here. The Cyclones will be razor sharp mentally.

I have a lot of respect for what Neal Brown and his staff are doing so far in Morgantown and this team has exceeded my expectations this season. The Mountaineers’ defensive line will be one of the biggest challenges of the...

I would be surprised if either team hits 30 points

ISU - 31
WVU - 17

I think Purdy is going to get a lot of meaningful yards with his legs and we'll click early on offense. This team will be dialed in for this one.

WVU is a scary team, but their defensive stats are helped by not playing us or OU yet.

*edit* echoing what Big_Sill mentioned a minute earlier

Agree with the others WVU has a good defense but those #'s are skewed by holding EKU (who?) to 10 pts and not playing the 2 highest scoring teams in the b12 OU and ISU. But ISU has to play well to win this one.

I think we play really well. WVU has had a couple crazy weeks with Covid.

Iowa State 34-17

My keys for this game, and pretty much every game for this team....
Defensively, don't give up any TD's longer than 30yds. That means we are keeping assignments and making them earn scoring drives.

Don't allow any Special Teams or non-offensive scores (pick six, fumble recovery, safety). Goes along with setting up our defense for success and making teams earn their points.

Breece 100+ yards rushing.

Do those things and I like our chances. I don't know much about Doege. Is he mobile enough to kill us on 3rd down scrambles?
Clones 28, WVU 20.

I’m not sure we’re going to give up any TD’s, period.

I almost said something similar prior to KState, decided not to jinx it. Now? Why not?

BTW—Doege is so “mobile” that his season rushing stats are something like -74 yards. Their OL starts two undertall freshman and soph OT’s, plus a true frosh OG.

One other thought I had. Teams have got to be putting a ton of attention on Kolar as they continue to scout us. Need Hutch, Shaw, Milton and other guys to win 1v1 battles when they have those opportunities. And I loved Purdy's poise and decision-making last week. No reason he shouldn't have a few good scrambles each game.

With losses to ISU and OU, WVU finishes 4-5 in the conference.

I do think they are a solid team. ISU seems to use the same mode every game: Start out super vanilla and see what the opponent's game plan is. Give up yards but try to keep them out of the endzone, then start to adjust in the 2nd quarter, and really see a change in the 2nd half.

I expect at half the game to be tight. ISU eventually gets some distance and wins. I'll go 27-17.

While I knew Milton was missed, I think the UT game showed just how much. I don't think he even had 40 yards, but the ability on 3rd and 5 to have a guy that in the slot get open and convert was a huge blessing. Not to mention when he did go deep he was open and Purdy barely missed him. Akers has been solid, and is a good RAC guy, but I think Milton's better at getting open, whether it's quickness in and out of breaks or precision in route running.

The last time the picks were this one-sided, we all found ourselves very disappointed (san Kansas cause they don't ever count). WV is a good football team. We won't win with our 'B' game. I hope we bring the 'A' game.
Boy, do some folks know how to reach for a reason to be a downer.

Last week the picks would have been one-sided, aside from the guy who actually lives in Texas, and has a not so subtle unconscious bias because of what he’s surrounded by.

Hmmm. I'm not typically a downer. Let's just say I'm cautious. I don't expect us to lose. But I didn't against Louisiana either.
