Stadium Sculpture

I saw this yesterday. I’m no art connoisseur so I have to admit that looking at these photos I don’t understand what this is supposed to look like. Maybe there are more pieces to install.

Look at the MLK statue in DC and it will make more sense......I think.

It looks to me like the finished piece will have Jack’s figure cut out of the stone. Think of Wile E. Coyote running through a door.

Trice's old stature is exhibited and seen more than daily by many on Central Campus. The tribute ceremony after relocation was somewhat emotional for players.

Jack would have been important as the first of his race to play for Iowa State. But how he lived and how he died is how he is most remembered and celebrated.

It’s all about breaking barriers. That was the theme of the two forwards in the book about Jack from Gene Smith and Seneca.

It's art so it's very subjective by nature.

It somewhat reminds me of the JFK monument in Dallas because it's a bit understated and up to the person looking at it to form the opinion.

I still don't get the JFK monument, but it's memorable

So true. I see the footsteps leading out of the stadium and in to the world. Kind of like JT’s life and story moving from the football world in to the real world.

I saw the story on WHO-TV yesterday. They mentioned something like if the sunlight hit it just right it will give a better view of the actual outline of him that we see in the all the pictures.

I had JFK thing on my bucket list.

At a glance it's pretty austere and vacant. The representation seeks to project: "a place of quiet refuge, an enclosed place of thought and contemplation separated from the city around, but near the sky and earth."
