St. Louis

In every city, I've learned I most love the first or second ring of neighborhoods outside of DC. In STL's case, that's Soulard, Tower Grove, and the Central West End. Unfortunately their Downtown had a lot of demolitions for parking garages and other things back in the 70s and 80s and hasn't had the economic boom to bring it all back yet.

Detroit even has a really good second ring (Clinton Township, Sterling Heights, Troy, etc). I happen to live in the third ring, 2 miles away from the second.

you could honestly tent camp in East St Louis, aint nobody there to bother you

Forest Park is excellent. One of the best urban parks I’ve ever seen (I’ve been to Central Park)

I seek out places that have a little grit and are generally disrespected. You always find the best kinds of gems in those places. Usually great people too.
the zoo is free and also awesome

I didn't say suburb ring, I said neighborhood ring. I really like Corktown in Detroit tho too.

Yeah, while Detroit as cleaned up a lot of neighborhoods in the last decade or two (Corktown is a good example), it's still best to measure Detroit by suburban rings.

You can say that about pretty much any larger city.

I’ve been to a lot of cities, I’m not terribly cultured, so for the most part they all seem kind of the same to me for the most part.

I booked the Chase Park Plaza in January. Also made tee times for Thursday and Saturday - going to be almost 80 degrees with no wind.

Just a heads up to those of you going.

That arena is always cold (and I never run cold) so you may want to dress accordingly.

You haven’t been to the right spots. Soulard, the Hill, Southampton, are all loaded with absolute gems

What would be a few of the gems? We should have lots of time to explore while in St. Louis.

Minus the ballpark downtown is nothing special.
Downtown St. Louis has really changed a lot over the past 20 years. There used to be a lot of great places to eat and drink around the Arch and the Busch Stadium, not so much now. Very good ouster bar south of Busch, and that is about it anymore. Now it's all out in the burbs.

I love the Macklind Ave stip in Southampton. It's all small neighborhood places, but I had a blast at all of them. The Mack is a good all around spot with good bar food. Stan's Bar is a fun karaoke/neighborhood pub. Russel's is a great brunch spot.

Soulard is full of cool spots. Molly's, 1860, 4 Hands (brewery) just to name a few.

The Anheuser-Busch Brewery is worth a tour too.

When you recommend a local brewery, like 4 Hands, I take it seriously!
