Socks for Boots

So when do you plan to actually wash them?

Oh the laundry of the dozen or so pieces of clothing I wear on these backpacking trips is a real scene. It's not a hobby for people who need to feel clean every day. It's probably like if someone who works outside on a farm wore the same clothes for two weeks haha.

If they’re not showing, you could always just try soccer socks. They’ll cover your entire call and won’t slip down.

If for work, easiest suggestion is to tuck your pants inside. Actually that’s how cowboy boots are meant to be worn.

Spring/Summer/Fall full length/boot socks from Celersport - https://amzn.to/3NBMi7O

Winter full length/boot socks from Darn Tough - https://amzn.to/3NdFIEw

I buy exclusively Celersport socks of various sizes for literally everything (running socks, every day socks, winter commuting socks) except winter hiking/camping and have a couple pairs of the Darn Tough for that.

I have UA over the calf thermal boot socks (I think they're wool) and love them. They go up to just under the knee and stay up. They're also thick without being too thick. They're thick enough that they take care of the hot spots I had on the inside of the ankles of my upland boots.

Was trying to find a link but I bought them years ago so they may not make them anymore.

I wear Darn tough for everything, all day all the time...walking (12-15 miles/week), biking, hiking, working, tennis shoes, trail runners, cycling shoes, Merrils, Obos hiking boots. I get the hiking version and so its a mid thickness. I have never had an issue with them moving around. As well, I just sent in 3 pairs due to holes, and got free replacements.

May consider looking at a different thickness/style of sock with the darn tough. I think they have 3 thickness if you will,

Darn Tough are true miracle products.

I go on 2 week long mountain backpacking hikes where I cover like 200 miles. I bring just two pairs and air one out while I sleep in the other. At the end of the trip my feet don't even smell and the socks aren't even gross. Obviously key to stay warm, but the trick is they totally neutralize any sweating. Some pairs of these I've been using for like 10 years now.

Smartwool brand isn't bad either but they are not as durable as Darn Tough.
I keep hearing how good those Darn tough socks are so I went and bought a pair a couple weeks ago just try try them out. They're really nice I agree but they don't stay up over my calf. At least one of them slides down my leg between my truck and the parking lot at work. I also have to adjust them every time I walk up or down the stairs. If they worked I'd just spend the money and get a couple more pairs of them but I'm just not seeing it with them for what I need.

Darn Tough apostle here. Will never go back to any other sock.

Do you have a really large upper calf? You might need over the calf or knee length anything if so.

Boot length is not on this chart but is in between crew and executive/over the calf.

I've been trying to find over the calf socks. My calves aren't huge, been accused of having chicken legs more than once in my life. What I'm finding is "over the calf" might be an inch or two difference even between a single pair of socks. Like the pair I'm wearing right now when I pull them up are noticeably difference heights. The taller one stays up just fine but I'm pulling the short one up pretty consistently.

Get some 'Darn tough socks' and if you're willing to spend more alpaca socks are the best. They're not too hot either. They breathe so well. I wear 8 inch boots for work.

Edit: Wellington Boots aren't tight around the upper ankles and likely why they're still falling down.

Yeah, I mainly wear the kind of mid length that go a couple inches above my ankles. I have two pairs of long ones I use for cold night camping but my legs are probably thinner than most and I’m mainly just sleeping in them.

Fit on this stuff is pretty random luck, but the material/quality/tech they use is pretty nuts for some of the stuff I’ve put them through like wearing a pair two weeks solid in mountains.

Not sure they can be called socks without actually covering all of the foot. That loose example would give you a great Flash Dance look. Jennifer Beals was hot in that movie. Might be tough for a dude to pull off that vibe once you take your boots off.

My wife adores the Darn Tough socks, but I think the quality of these is better -- and they fit snug and don't fall down. I often have issues hiking and getting blisters, but never an issue if I wear these wool socks:

I was going to mention some socks we got at the ski/snowboard shop. They are that under knee height, thick and stay up. But the OP said they would like thinner and these aren't. Also the have the seconds at the shop for dirt cheap. I don't care if there is a minor superficial blemish on socks - they are going to look like hell soon enough anyway.

When I am working and wearing steel toed boots, I wear really thick socks even in 100 degree heat. They help protect my feet - especially sweaty feet - from chafing and blisters.

These would stay up if you didn’t want the sock garters. Only used female model because finding a male one wasn’t readily available.
