Are SMV signs required all over the state of Iowa? Or just in Algona and Kossuth County? Side by sides that can do 70 mph need to have them around here. An smv sign has a speed limit of 30-35 mph. So you can get a speeding ticket quickly.

I was getting supplies in a farm store in Waverly and the guy Infront was buying a SMV sign because DOT pulled over this large group (was over a 100) on a charity ride and told them they needed signs. Can’t remember if they got tickets though. Are SMV signs required all over the state of Iowa? Or just in Algona and Kossuth County? Side by sides that can do 70 mph need to have them around here. You must not have read my link from the Iowa DOT. https://iowadot.gov/consultants-con.../driving-your-atv-or-utvorv-iowa-public-roadsPretty sure they’re required for any vehicle that has a maximum travel speed less than 40 mph. A side by side that goes faster than that must have certain safety features similar to automobiles, but I do not believe they require SMV signs. This is determined by state law, so local jurisdictions shouldn’t be able to set different standards on public roads.

UTVs/ATVs are not supposed to be operated faster than 35mph (even though they may be capable of more) and they need a SMV on the back.

I don't know if I have seen a single one with a SMV sign while driving on the road.I know there is a petition going around to allow them to go posted speed limit. I already have had a friend get killed on one these and have seen other accidents on the news.
People riding these in small towns don’t care about road rules or signs. I think for every ATV with an SMV sign there are two that don’t have one.
