Should Purdy Redshirt this year?

I'm repeating over and over again just hoping it catches--the Big Ten does not have good defensive teams.

I do think Iowa's OK, but they let Wisconsin throw on them, so...

It’s a strange misconception that was probably true 20-30 years ago that just has kind of stayed around. Same with the SEC, but at least they’ve developed stellar offenses in that league, as opposed to the Big Ten which has awful offenses outside of Ohio State.

Penn State is a good offense.

Many teams out of the conference are running the same sort of scheme as many others in the country.

I think there's been a number of guys around the country who bailed after four games.

He had offers and visited Alabama and aTm among others. I suspect the reason Campbell put him in the game is concern the guy might transfer if he doesn't play.

He will not redshirt. Barring injury he will be the ISU QB for the next 4 years.

That is one of the most impressive games I've seen from a true freshman quarterback. I remember guys like Chase Daniel who have drawn a paycheck in the NFL for years struggle a lot as freshmen against lesser competition than Purdy faced vs Oklahoma State.

He has played in 5 games as of yesterday. With these new rules does that matter?

I have no idea I was just being kind of a smartass when I posted it. I think he's a red shirt anyway so I think he would lose a yr if transferring, but not sure. I just like watching ISU sports don't really follow all the rest.

A kid can show flashes at UAB and then announce he's transferring after his 4 games and end up RS the next season at an SEC school without losing an eligibility.
But wouldn't his redshirt come after his first 4 games? Then he has to sit out, and lose a year at the SEC school, leaving him 3 years.

That's sort of in their job description.

Yes, but they don't always do so in such spectacular fashion. Butler's catch in the endzone was amazing. He jumped up and snatched a pretty hot pass out of the air and still managed to get a foot down for the TD. He also stole the ball away from a DB on a pass up the middle. Eaton's catch was either an incredible throw or just plain luck. There were a lot of bodies around him, and the pass just barely slipped through there. Not saying BP didn't have a great game, because he did. Just that it was also one where most of the time those 50/50 ball went his way.

50/50 balls usually go the offence's way. Either a catch or an incomplete. Interceptions are rare on 50/50 balls. Most interception occur on clear errors, like QB not seeing a defender or errant throw.

Or the receiver making the wrong cut? (Hint, hint)

Going to point out, after watching replays several times, the pass to Akers was slightly underthrown (emphasis on “slightly”), the one to Milton more so.

That said, there’s only one way Purdy redshirts this year. And I’m just superstitious enough that I’m not going to say what it is.

Play out his eligibility and reevaluate at that point, no point in worrying about it now when he can play two more full games first. If he keeps it close against WV and beats TT than burn his redshirt.

They still have to sit out a year at the new school. No different than now but now their decision to transfer may be based on more solid evidence as to their future at their current school. Win-win.

Except they burned their redshirt playing only 4 games. The sit out year would lose them a year of eligibility.

Our fan base is just off the charts sometimes.

Is it time yet?

Probably will be a lot of qb controversy talk this week by local media, especially Randy P and kxno
