Senior Night (Mel + O'Canada)

What on earth are those symbols beneath the French?? I must have missed that style in my diction for singers class. (Seriously, I have taken a diction for singers class.)

Word from a pep band member is that the sheet music was distributed and it's been in this week's rehearsals. We'll hear O Canada right after the National Anthem.

Confirmed.

I love it. Great anthem, great for Melvin. I am a hockey guy and know the words, and will sing along, even though it Canada isn't my home or native land.

Am I the only one who knows the song because of this episode of That 70s Show?

For whatever reason, we had a unit on Canada in my 6th grade Social Studies class which included singing along to "Oh Canada." I still remember all the words, and actually really like the anthem.

“There are great players from Canada in this league,” Ejimi said. “It would say a lot about (Iowa State) and about Canada if they played ‘O Canada’ before my last home game.
“It would be amazing.”

This would be cool. The best youth players right now come out of Canada. This would highlight ISU very positively.

I know that it may be short notice, but is there any way we could get ahold of Jim Cornelison of the Chicago Blackhawks to sing both O' Canada and The Nat'l Anthem this Sat. The Blackhawks are on the road this weekend. I know myself and others have talked up his rendition of the Nat'l Anthem, but I don't think there is anyone within 6 hours of Ames other than him that sings O' Canada as well as he does either.

All for it. Was Murph and Andy short of topics today that they actually brought up an anthem we might play for our senior? Or was it not brought up for debate, but rather spoke as something cool to do?

O Canada for Melvin, of course we can do that! But if he wants to play Rush instead, that works too.

Still waiting for our first prominent Australian player. Barnsey would blow the lid off of Hilton.

"He's a legend of his kind
He's running like a cyclone
Across the wild mid western sky
Oh oh oh he's a working class man"

How perfect is that?!?!

I asked Alison Lacey once if they'd let her wear an Australian flag on her uniform. She said no they would not, but she would have liked to have had an Australian flag in the building at some point. I don't see why foreign players can't wear their own flag on their uniform.

I'm fine with O'Canada but this sounds like going a little bit overboard. They're in our country playing for schools who are giving them a free degree, I don't think you need everybody having their own little flag on their uniforms.

Creighton played the Venezuelan anthem for Gregory Echenique last year on his senor night. I thought it was a very classy gesture to show what that player meant to the team and university.

I don't think I'll make the game....would love if one of you would video the senior day intros/cheers (and any video board stuff) and post on youtube. Please and thank you.

He's been in America for, what, the last 8 years? He's assimilated by now, ditch the whole Canada thing.

:jimlad:

I was surprised when they did a poll on KXNO and 48% of people were against having the Canadian national anthem played. I didn't think it was that out of the ordinary considering they routinely play the Canadian national anthem followed by the USA anthem at hockey games (I've heard the order is reversed when the games are played in Canadian cities). It's not like they're trying to play "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion before the game starts.

It all starts with playing the national anthem. Next thing you know they are flooding into our country and taking our jobs and women.
