Heading to San Antonio for 3 days later this week and looking for dining/live music recommendations. Would prefer to get away form the tourist places on the River walk. Anyone have any recommendations on authentic Mexican or BBQ near the Convention Center Riverwalk area?

We checked out one of the Spanish missions a few years ago. If you are into history you might like it.

Here are a couple of comments from personal experience and from a friend: “Biga on the Banks” and I think the waiter was Thomas (it was a long week) but the service (so knowledgeable) and food were fabulous. It was a great dining experience. My friend was just there last week.

One of the best steaks ever at Bohannon’s restaurant. My friend said it was one of his top five all time steaks!

A couple of years ago we had an opening night reception and meal at a place called the “La Vista Terrace”. It was on the 2nd or 3rd floor overlooking the Alamo. Fantastic atmosphere. Large group with stations so we didn't do a sit down dinner.

Checkout The Rustic on the west side of town; good drink menu with large outdoor patio/venue for live music.

He’s going to be downtown. That’s 30+ minutes to the rim.

you’re correct the rustic is cool. Saw Sister Hazel three week and a half ago.

Most places are going to be touristy in the convention center/riverwalk area. That doesn't mean they are all bad but they will be touristy.

It's about a half of a mile walk from the convention center so I'll recommend going to Rosario's in the King William District for Mexican.

Commonwealth Coffee House in Hemisfair Park has pretty good breakfast stuff. Also, you can see the federal courthouse that was named after the judge that Woody Harrelson's dad killed.
