RTT...20-20 hindsight.

Watching an old movie tonight that I hadn't seen in a while - Mister Roberts (starring Henry Fonda). We paused it for a couple of minutes and when we came back, the streaming channel had the rating and reasons for the rating up in the upper left corner as always.

Would it surprise you to know that Mister Roberts was rated 18+ for sexual content, language, and violence? It sure surprised me! I think the strongest word used was damn, and the sexual content was basically the crew watching the nurses through binoculars, and Pulver describing how he was going to seduce one of them. The violence was non-existent. Makes me wonder if the person who rated it actually watched the movie!
It was probably rated in 1955.

Not really. Movie ratings as we know them began in the late 60s. That's when my father figured out the G & PG ratings and I was doomed to G rated movies until I was old enough that my friends and I could drive ourselves to movies. :D

Basically, I suspect someone at Prime is rating old movies to make them compatible with modern movies. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!

Google says this about the movie's ratings:
  • MPAA Rating: Not Rated (NR) by the MPAA (though historically approved in 1955) Common Sense Media
  • Common Sense Media: Recommended for ages 13+ (due to adult themes and historical context) Common Sense Media [1, 2, 3]

Is it worse that I can see what I’m probably getting for Father’s Day or is it worse that they charge it on my credit card so it means I’m paying for it?

Facebook algo is giving me posts about teachers/staff retiring from my K-8 school district or my HS district. Every retiree listed started working there after I had left the district. I recognized one name, and that's because I went to HS with his daughter.

Yep, now I'm OLD old.

Nothing for flashing lights or smoking?

Internet site algorithms, especially Facebook, seem to have determined I want/need compression socks. I do not. Probably goes back to this winter and me ordering some warm wool socks for my birding walkabouts. They also think I need a LOT more wool or alpaca socks. I do not.

Looks like this guy wants to put something there but wants the dirt gone, so posted free dirt to come get people to dig it up for him.

Years ago I needed dirt so I drove over to some new home construction less than a mile away and asked the guys if they cared if I took a truckload of dirt that had just been excavated. They told me no problem so I backed up by the pile, pulled out my shovel and started shoveling. The boss jumped into the bobcat and scooped up a bucket and dumped it into the bed and asked me if I wanted more. I said it looked about right so I said thank you and drove home.
