RTT...20-20 hindsight.

Jeff Goldblum coming back from break to present best actress.......the spontaneous and organic acceptance speech will be just lovely I am sure.
I'm glad you're critiquing award shows. I enjoy your takes.

First bullet is a trip I'm planning for July/August. Any high level recommendations on number of days to stay in each? I'm looking at 2 weeks +/- a couple days
I'm going in April and doing

Budapest-3 days
Vienna-3 days
Salzburg-3 days
Zurich-1 night (flight)

Sold our house of 20 years, and bought a new build. It's nice having new, but miss having trees. Everything else is great. Sold our house in a month for asking, which is a positive, but that probably means we overpaid for our new one. Same thing happened 20 years ago.

Still on track to retire at 60.

Feel fat as hell, but I looked back and I weigh 5 lbs less than last year at this time. Still fat as hell.

Can I ask how much per square foot it is to build now? I know there are a lot of variables but hearing that a midline level house is around $300 per square foot.

Oh No! Dr. Phil was nearly assassiated . . . . that is rough, as I was nearly assassiated once too.

Ours was 90% finished when we put in an offer. 2800 sqft finished (1645 main level/1200 W/O basement). $600k/Waukee/Urbandale

How much are lots?
Around $80k, and a lot worse than they were 20 years ago when we bought a new house. This one is only 1/4 acre, which is fine with me, but it's very common to vastly different priced houses in your neighborhood. When we bought our previous house in 2005, every single house in that neighborhood was between $210k and $350k. They were all built by two local builders. Now it's mostly large national companies like DR Horton.

The HOA's also seem to be a lot less strict, which I'm not a fan of. I now a lot of people hate HOA's (see above), but we lived about 4 blocks from an area that didn't have an HOA, and in 20 years the difference was stunning.

With our youngest graduating HS this year, it may finally be the chance to get the wife to move. Slim chance to build at the farm, but at least slim. When we built our house in 03 it was right at $100 per square foot with a 2.5 car garage and the basement just studded and insulated.

We were going to hold out until retirement (move to another state), but we decided the time was right and we may stay in Iowa for a few years after retirementr, or maybe forever, who knows.

Yeah I was thinking about that too. Built in 99, ~2200 sqft finished (1100 sqft unfinished basement) and build costs were ~$210k, so it was about $95/sqft. We didn't do anything super fancy though, no cherry cabinets or granite countertops etc. 3 car attached.

It's 2x now, which sounds terrible, but its only 3% annual inflation over 25 years.

2x I could do. We are 1760 sq feet. Finished 1100-1200 in the basement. Counters are now quartz, added a 3 rd attached garage, have to go outside for it since it’s not fully finished on the inside and I don’t want to open up the 2.5 since it’s finished and heated. New flooring throughout. New roof and all new mechanicals except A/C. We would get close to double what we built it for if we sold.
