Royce traded to Sixers

I wonder if this is just Houston using the opportunity to get him out of town so that they don't have to face the wrath of their fans when they cut him. If Houston cuts him, they are cutting a #16 pick. If they trade him, he goes off the radar of the Houston fans, and it is much less noteworthy to Houston fans when the other team cuts him.

On the other hand, I don't think Houston fans are going to forget soon about this fiasco.

I think they faced more wrath for keeping him.

One poster last night at clutchfans had a post last night calling the Royce episode the Whitemare. Nobody disagreed.
Overall, I just don't think they will miss him, and I think that their fans would have cheered had the Rockets cut Royce.
 
I notice he is taking the weekend off Twitter. Wonder if it was a contract requirement of the trade? If I was trading for him, I would make the expectations very clear, both for his sake and mine. Establish lots of protocols.

Its bad (or good) either way for Houston, but now at least he can get farther on the periphery for Houston fans. As long as they hold the rights to him, they are begging for their fans to give them grief. Now, with him being part of some other franchise, they don't have to care (and debate) whether to cut him. I think the fans will be less reactive to a trade (with another team cutting him) than they would to cutting him themselves. At first, they might just be glad to get rid of him, but eventually it will move away from him and on to the "cutting a 1st round pick after one season." I think there will be less grief for "trading a 1st round pick for nothing."

Having said all of this, who knows what is really going on. Maybe this will be a fresh start for him. I really hope that he gets what is good for him. And it would be fun to see him actually play in the NBA.

His Twitter feed has him tweeting up to 6 hours ago. All pretty positive stuff so far.
 
He posted many times overnight on Twitter, so much for implementing no Twitter for him. I did find it interesting Rockets GM wished him #BeWell and said he would surprise doubters on Twitter.
 
He's back on Twitter this morning. All positive so far.

What? How is any of that relevant to what I was saying? I said the Sixers have seen the baggage that comes with Royce and are willing to take it. Nobody is forcing them to take him. The NBA isn't some gov't charity.
 
That philly team is going to be young if Royce gets his **** together.

How was he treated unfairly in Houston? There's a difference between being treated fairly and expecting them to kiss your butt.
 
Well...nowhere to go from here but up. Best of luck to him. Even if he never plays a minute in the NBA I'll always pull for him in the end because of the grace and kindness he showed to my father and I when we met him at the NCAA tournament in Louisville of 2012 (see my avatar pic).

There's also a difference between saying someone's being treated unfairly and saying someone thinks they're being treated unfairly. I never said I thought he was being treated unfairly. Read my post again.

Personally, I felt the Rockets were treating him as fairly as can be hoped.

Philly is a better personality

I hope he realizes Houston pretty much paid Philly to take him off their hands. Wake up buddy. You may think you're talented but doesn't matter if you can't figure out how to get on the court to prove it. #toughlove
