You realize this would be the equivalent of T.J. getting those players for the 2022-23 season. Tim had a fairly ready made roster his first year.
No I didn't realize that. Could you explain a little more? I thought that was Floyd's first year, and the players I mentioned were part of his first recruiting class, no? Are you saying Orr recruited them?

Floyd’s first year was Fred, Julius and Loren’s senior year. Year 2 was Willoughby, Cato, Bankhead, Pratt, etc. It was his first full recruiting class. This isn’t T.J.’s first class that will be next year.

Oh yeah, of course. You're right!! My bad. Still pretty 'bad' re-start class!

I guess I just remember it might have been his first year, now I know it was his second.

I'll therefore amend and let TJ have a year to get a class like that! Fun team to watch.

Technically Willoughby, Cato were year 1 as transfers. Pratt Bankhead were year 2 Jucos.

Thank you sir. Another reason I love this board (most of the time), people like you who are great Cyclone fans and know the history. :)

I think some of you guys are forgetting there are two sides to the transfer portal. Yes there are a flood of guys who are looking for new schools many of them either highly ranked coming out of high school or who have played in a way that suggests they were under ranked. Yes, we want to get those guys but it isn't like they all won't have dozens of teams looking at them either. Almost every school has 3-5 or more spots to fill in the spring transfer market. It's not like we are the only school in line at the smorgasbord of talent.

Most of the schools will promise playing time. Most will point to their record of recent NCAA success. Most will point to their upward momentum from this years record. We don't have that. This is a heavy lift for TJ and staff. I think he is being very thoughtful about who he brings in and what he is trying to with the program and his goal is the result next year, but creating sustainable success.

We win a game or two with another coach. Someone would’ve done something that would’ve led to a different outcome.

That’s honestly just how bad Prohm was..
We hung with Baylor and WV twice, among others. I don’t think you can say we were overlooked in all 4 of those games. Yes, we got blown out in other games. I’m just not going to blame everything on Prohm. I don’t think he’s a “bad coach” or whatever you’re intimating about him. I think it’s important to remember this was a team expecting to have Hinson and Foster. Would that have made us world beaters, no. But I think we’d have looked a hell of a lot different. There are too many players who made great strides under Prohm and are making nice money to simply write him off as a bad coach, especially guards and a few wings. Assuming the right guys return, I don’t think our talent is all that bad.

He finished last in the conference 3 out of 4 years and the lone year he didn't, he finished 5th. How do you define bad coach?

This was the worst season in ISU men’s bball history. Let’s just leave it at that

99% of these kids don't recognize Iowa State from Oregon State or Clemson or Wichita State. They definitely don't know what Hilton Coliseum is. They see 2-22. Not 10-14. 2 and freakin' 22. That's a dumpster fire with little upside to most transfers.

You think these kids never watched basketball growing up? Maybe just started last year while they were playing elsewhere?

These first two guys are fine, but TJ better be also bringing in a couple starters as well. We need some starter level players, we currently don’t hardly have any.

Whats looking like a potential 5 new guys brought in, plus hopefully Hunter, I'm okay with the 2 effort additions. You say "better be bringing in"..... Its not like TJ isn't 'trying' to bring in high level starters. We made the top 7 for the kid from Virg Tech, who some have said is the best shooter in the ACC, but imagine it will be a very tough get. Same with the Cain, Richmond, Groves, or Locke interests. Not midwest guys except for maybe Cain if you consider Michigan midwest. Probably no connections to our staff either. More successful teams on lots of their lists. Hopefully we can nab a couple, but I don't expect miracles from TJ this first off-season either.

Oh, so you don't want to define "bad coach"?
You’re a big ISU fan, I can tell. Get your **** straight and I’ll be more than happy to engage you. Here’s a hint- it has to deal with your post I initially responded to.

I feel the most you can reasonably ask for in recruiting is for a coaching staff to recruit to a level higher than the current results. That doesn’t necessarily mean hitting home runs; that could be hitting singles instead of striking out. The results were terrible this year. We aren’t a great destination for transfers this year. I’m hoping for the best, but if the incomers can raise the level of the team by an appreciable amount, that’s a step in the right direction, even if it’s just a “step” and not a “leap”. If you keep recruiting a level above your results, you’ll eventually reach your goals.
We won’t know much about this class until they hit the court this year. Trust the process.

Plenty of kids just watch the NBA, and might only tune in to CBB at tourney time. Even then, the media usually fixated on the blue bloods. We can sell our tradition, but it would be easy to overestimate our own brand value.

Probably not as much as we did or do. They might recognize some players. Most of them aren't like us. They don't spend their time obsessing over college sports. If they do obsess over the game, it's the NBA. When was the last time you read a player interview and they mentioned anything but their relationship with the coaching staff or whatever the staff is selling them? Nobody is saying, "And I know they have Hilton Magic. I'd really like to play in that building."

Iowa State is just another P6 program. That's the truth.
