And Floyd brought in Cato, Pratt, Bankhead, and Willoughby first year after Orr.

We demand nothing less!
Yeah. let's forget the fact these weren't big name players. Pratt was a 6'4 power forward. Cato was an ok player at South Alabama. The best player was Willoughby and he wasn't even that good at New Orleans. If Otz signed these guys today there would be an uproar just like there is now at signing the guys they have so far.

Cato was a 6 & 5 guy at South Alabama. Willoughby was a 9 & 2 & .7(ast) guy at New Orleans, and Pratt, well he was just a freak.

Apparently in a fever dream.

Not to mention if a coach, today, put together starting 5 with only 1 player that can shoot beyond 10 feet from the basket.

It's not fair to "be alarmed" about anyone that gets brought in. They will prove their worth(or not) when they hit the floor. There's a big difference between Robert Jones and Jeff Beverly. The guys who brought them here.
Well, it's a message board, and it doesn't make for too interesting discussion if evaluation of every recruit is just going to be "I trust TJ."

With that said one thing I'm looking forward to is having more consistency in recruiting. Prohm had some great pulls, both in terms of attracting highly ranked guys to ISU, but also identifying some really good under recruited guys. But there were way too many guys that ended up not contributing at all. TJ is going to have some misses like every coach, but I think there will be a higher rate of guys that are at least solid contributors.

I also think a big improvement in recruiting that TJ and his staff will bring is recruiting pieces that fit well together and are complimentary. Prohm's rosters pretty much all had holes along with redundancy.

I think if Hunter sticks with ISU, then otherwise getting guys like Jones that may provide depth and contribute solid minutes will be perfectly fine.

I took it as our first two transfers show TJ is playing chess while everybody else is playing checkers in your mind. That's all.
I can see how you’d think that. And I believe I might’ve used the wrong phrasing so that’s my bad.

I think / hope theres more to the Jones take. If anything, just opening up the Minnesota recruiting landscape a bit. Who cares if this guy ends up being #13 on the roster if it means our future with Minnesota finally looks bright.

Not sure how good this get is, our even our HC at this point; but at least we are getting away from 4G , zero rebound effort, and weak rim protection. GC did have some blocks, but he had more fouls.

This is is a big job to fix this program. The culture is whack, Steve lost control at some
I mean I think taking this guy looks like a reach and I’m not too thrilled about it, but I don’t know if what I said was laughable? Saying hopefully this move works out in the end and that we can bring in a guy or two that actually excites the fan base is a bad thing I guess?

Idk, I think people are absolutely ridiculous. I’ve only been on here for 3 years so I haven’t been here for a football or a basketball coaching hire. It’s been an experience to say the least.

We have to reach right now. Not sure what else there is to do. People love it when CMC does the “Diamond in the rough, Coach him up” takes.

I’m hopeful that TJ’s plan works out in the end. This reach may not even matter in the end and we can look back and laugh at how stupid we all looked. Only time will tell.

Seems like the criteria so far has been athletic ability with a motor. Should make for some fun basketball to watch
I think rebounding mostly, which falls in line with what you’re saying. I would be ecstatic if we could even hold our own on the boards in conference games. Hell in the non-con too for that matter. I’m just wondering what we’re giving up in other areas to make up some ground on the boards with our first two new guys. But rebounding and general “toughness “ would help out a lot. I miss the physical and mental toughness the Floyd and Eustachy teams had.

Would you be happier if every post was just "I trust TJ!" and nothing else?

I'd be happier if we didn't rip a kid who just committed to the Cyclones based on a stat line. It's part of the discussion, sure but when we're "alarmed" about a kid choosing ISU or we have to "convince me this is a good get", I bet he's pretty excited to be here.
