Rob Gray Article on the OL

Campbell has been consistent in his praise for Ramos. I expect him to be an all conference guy before his career is over. I don't take Campbell's comments too seriously when he's discussing a position group, but when he consistently mentions an individual player, you can bet that that guy is going to be a solid player at the least.

I feel like this might actually be the year that ISU's OL takes that step. For whatever reason CMC's OL recruiting his first two years at ISU was pretty much a bust. Lots of guys that didn't show up, didn't stay or just were not good enough. Look at the OL now. Pretty sure that Foster is the only senior on the OL, but there are a lot of RS soph and juniors. Still wouldn't hurt my feelings to have a couple Ohio State OL transferring in.

Isn't this article written every year?
Yes. I know Campbell's not one for fluff, but I feel like he probably gets asked about this a lot and knows that Iowa State fans have a big time inferiority complex when it comes to the o-line. We aren't wrong to think that way, the last decade or so has conditioned us to have those feelings. I appreciate Matt, allowing us at least 19 more nights we can go to sleep feeling happy and relaxed about the o-line

A few of us...uh...more seasoned fans will not sleep easy until we actually see an improved O-line on the field.

Manning being o-line coach of the year before coming to ISU, we all assumed we were goin to have great o-lines every year
Don’t be ridiculous. I’ve read your posts for years. You’re not dumb. You know full well the raw talent hasn’t been there.

Campbell has been doing the best he can with Rhoads’ recruiting table scraps. I haven’t hoped for anything more than “passable” out of any of the last four OL groups, and they pretty much accomplished that last year.

Shoot, I’m not even expecting “great” this year, though it would be a pleasant surprise. Next year, ‘21, maybe so—assuming that A. They play this season, and B. There aren’t losses to the NFL or other attrition.

Do we have any new guesses for the starting 5?
My guess? Left to right: Treiber, Downing, Newell, Hudson, Ramos.
I didn't see Treiber mentioned in the article?
CMC didn’t spend time breaking down the Individual players. He did say that the group has been making progress—but that could be taken in terms of “They didn’t have Spring ball to practice, so they’re catching up fast.”

I agree with the poster who had this lineup.

Ramos
Downing
Schweiger
Newell
Foster

I’m going to go with this for now also.

Not sure about Foster though? I think that could end up being Treiber, but would not be surprised at all to see it be Foster to start the season at least because CMC really favors experience over someone with none.

We have a great QB
We have a great TE
We have a very good RB(or two?)
We have talent at OL and especially WR but questions as they are unknown
We have potentially the best D in the Big12

If the OL steps up it could be a special year.
