Good to see Texas State rebounded after that Friday Night Lights coach left midway through the year.
The "airport excuse" is twofold.
As previously mentioned, it's partially about getting parents paid for on official visits, which the NCAA does not currently allow. Smaller schools without built in recruiting advantages are lobbying for this, and ones like Texas and Alabama are lobbying against it.
Further, it's all about unofficial visits too. A kid in Houston that Texas absolutely loves could conceivably go visit Austin almost as much as Allen Lazard did Ames. That helps a lot. Not so here in Ames with Rhoads' recruiting strategy, but it'll be interesting to see how Campbell's "4 hour radius" strategy works with this. Getting recruits within a half day driving range might get them on campus more often and with their parents.

Not only best of luck, but doesn't that help ISU? Don't some buyouts get adjusted if the fired coach gets a new position?

Looks like some are raising questions there. I see someone in there has hopes that Rhoads would be aggressive with his offensive playcalling and would be a solid game manager.
If they go looking deeper than the youtube videos that they're fixated on, that excitement will wane.
I hear they've got a great kicker that he can build his team around.
