To people worrying about living of 4.5 million, I'm sure he has been able to set aside a nice nest egg with the millions he has already made and I'm sure he will be able to find work again. Work that pays several times what most people make.

Going to have a hard time finding people on this board to sympathize with Paul.

Agree...wonderful man (Paul)...but sports is all about emotions and that is the fun stories...but yes, I felt for Paul the man...but also recognize Paul's bank account (even prior to ISU he was making doctor's money) will keep him fed/housed..and the new payment of 4.5 will assure his grandkids will never be homeless, too.

Paul is a good DC or DB coach. If he wants one, he'll get a good job. And I hope he's able to do what he wants because he's a good man.

I wish Dan McCarney would have stuck with being a DC or DL coach. He was an absolutely outstanding DL coach. I was disappointed to see him fail at NT.

The concern for most of you d-bags is that the assistants and position-coaches don't get to live off of the 4.5M that Paul does. So, yes, there are some people worried about the former staff. I'll bet most of the assistants saw the writing on the wall and losing their jobs wasn't a surprise. You also have to remember that's the life of being an assistant. Good pay, difficulty staying in one place for very long, hard family life for a few months each year, etc. They choose that life so I don't exactly feel bad for them.

Some of you guys are very protective of these guys, I thank them for their time and efforts to try to make ISU a winner. But they made plenty of money to coach football.

Sure I wish them best of luck in their coaching searches, but I'm not about to act like I care if Rhoads, Mangino, or Sturdy get another paying CFB job or not. Plus we all know Wally retired. I highly doubt any of them are going hungry tonight. I'm onto Campbell, his staff, and what is going on with ISU athletics right now.

I care about Rhoads. Poured his heart and soul into the program and genuinely cared about it when he could have made more money elsewhere in 2012. I know he got a nice buyout, but I was really hoping he'd get tOSU job.

Whoa slow down. Did you not bother to look at the post I quoted? Someone was suggesting that people were worried about Rhoads living off of his 4.5 million buyout. I think that's absurd. I wasn't commenting at all on the other members of his staff.

For what it's worth though... there are a lot of different levels of football. If the former assistants want/need a job they will be able to find them. It may not be at the level they were just coaching at, but their will be places out there more than willing to hire a coach with D1 experience regardless how poorly they did. I have family who have coached at the D3 level for a long time. D1 experience is enough to get these guys a job. I don't have too much pity for them. This is the industry they chose and I'm sure they are aware of that.

Assuming the new contracts released today are the same as for the former staff, they get paid for whatever remained on their contract . . . until they take another job.

You aren't showing indifference. You're showing hostility. The jealousy inherent in your post is sickening. These men earned the jobs and salaries that came with them. Yes, Rhoads got a nice buyout, but his assistants did not. I'm sure that they have mortgages and bills that they have to pay, and they need to find work to support their families. Hopefully they've put away some of the money they've earned and are prepared for some time adrift, but for you to attack them as if they are Daddy Warbucks is disgusting. I hope that if you lose your job, those around you are more sympathetic towards you than you are towards these men who worked hard for the university that we all love.

lol, you pulled a lot of stuff out of thin air there. I'm not hostile towards them at all. It's a competitive job market out there everywhere. Never did I say "I wish I had 4.5 mil dollars, I deserve that, not Rhoads." Never did I say "I hope they never find jobs." I've rooted for Paul Rhoads since day one and I will continue to root for him as long as he doesn't coach against ISU sometime down the line.

I have lost my job before through no fault of my own (unlike Rhoads.) No one cared. Friends and family members asked about it sure, but it was up to me to find a new job and because of my skills and education I was able to quickly find employment there after. I didn't need a group of people to have a sob fest for me and pray to their deities I found employment. I've met Rhoads before, he is a great guy, I wish him all the luck in the world. BUT, if you expect me to sit around and feel sorry for him? Haha, I'm sorry he couldn't win more games. I am not sorry about his bank account one bit, despite some people thinking 4.5 mil ISN'T REALLY THAT MUCH. A lot of people here must be living very comfortably (or lying because it is the internet.) Most people won't ever see that kind of money in their lives. So get over yourself Mother Theresa, sorry I don't have your level of sympathy for millionaires.

As for the staff, I'm sure the good, young ones will be fine and find jobs in the future in football. Wally is retired as we know so I hope he enjoys it. And if you are at all like klamath then I'm sure you care about Mangino and how much he will be making next year and where he'll be coaching, despite what he said about Rhoads and ISU after being fired. Because you know, we all need to be sympathetic towards him and to all people, kids. *goes to klamath for hug and cry session because life and occupations are tough*

No it wasn't. Say what you want about Rhoads, but he sacrificed a great opportunity to try and build something here. Obviously not the man for the job, but no reason to make **** like this up.
