Restaurants in Ames.

Recently made a couple trips to Ames. Had good eats at Jethro's bbq and Sweet Carolines on main.

My Mexican usual in Ames is La Casa Maya but curious if any Fanatics have reviews of El Jefe right across the street in the old Village Inn.
I thought it was pretty solid when I went a couple weeks ago. Only downside is it seems like they try to upcharge you for a lot of things.

Yeah, it's really my fault. I've always enabled it by grabbing the check everywhere and insisting on paying. So, I really don't blame them for letting me pay for everything. I brought it on myself.:)
If you have the means and don't mind, I think it is nice of you.

Bruce has done more for the community then you could dream about. Why do you think he is a piece of crap?

talk to any former workers. He is a womanizer, doesnt treat employes well and is just a **** in general. I know one of his past managers. He is not a good guy.

Ames needs a legit, non-chained steakhouse. It’s weird that a college town in the middle of Iowa has no place to get a good steak. Granted most college kids aren’t getting ribeyes I suppose.
RIP Northwestern Steakhouse. It used to be on East Lincolnway. Is that cathouse with the red door on the corner of E LW and Cherry still there?

We tried El Jefe tonight. The food was decent but we felt it was a little overpriced - $47 before tip for two adults and a kids Mac and cheese with just water to drink for all of us. We both still preferred Azteca but will go back and try it again. Would say it's probably the second best Mexican in Ames right now.
