Referees removed from game

Why would Missouri even think to try this? Like were they thinking “oh we’ll try to sneak one past the refs” or did they think they actually could punt?

I’ve literally never seen a team try to punt rather than kick off after a TD. I wouldn’t even think a team would try it.

They work for the B10 and did their job flawlessly in their eyes

They won't grade out as an A, Cyclones won. Maybe get a C+. They maybe should have waved off our TE catch as a some sort of "dead ball" for being tipped twice before the reception.

Supevsiors might make them go watch the ISU/KSU vampire game for how to manage end of game situation.

as @AllInForISU pointed out. I think Mizzou was punting for the hangtime to prevent KU from returning it well. If you can't get a touchback might as well try something that will let your team get down there before they return.

I missed it though since i was still on my way back from the Cyhawk game.

Yes. I can understand the advantage it would create. I guess my question is why did Missouri even think that was an option? Or did they do it on purpose and just tried to pull a fast one on the refs?

Rule change to make all kickoffs drop kicks!

What about the official that waved off the kick catch interference flag? I would love to see the official statement from the B10 on that one why it was justified being waved off.
I mean… that crew was just toeing the company line. Nothing to see here.

My guess in this situation … Mizzou was penalized and was kicking off from the 20. Since that was the same area as a post-safety free kick (where punting is allowed), some people got it in their heads that it was the same thing, so they went with the punt option.

It seems incredible to me that the Mizzou staff would be so devious as to do this intentionally while knowing it was illegal; seems like just a misinterpretation because they were kicking from the 20. But, coaches can be extra-devious in getting around the rules, so maybe … (Speaking of which, did you know there’s still a rule on the books requiring knee pads that actually cover the knees for all players? Given the epidemic of shorts being worn by players nowadays, I bet you didn’t).

Given all that, though, it’s inexcusable for the officials to allow a punt on a post-score kickoff situation where it is explicitly not allowed.

football should just be like basketball where refs are not tied to conferences. I am not one for conspiracies, but Saturday sure felt like big ten refs helping the big ten team.
While I agree, we certainly still have plenty of accusations of refs leaning toward preferred teams and outcomes in basketball as well.
