RECRUITING: Hans Brase sets official visit (COMMITS)

I'm not willing to take a hard stance on this, but I seem to be missing the boat on NWB. I just haven't seen it from him. This will be his third year in college ball - this ought to be the time for him to click.

Besides improving his 3 pt shot, I'd like to see Babb shoot fewer 12 footers where he's still moving towards the basket in the the air. Those are incredibly hard shots, and not ones he's hit at a very good clip so far.

He was instrumental in a few games we turned around last season (along with Jackson). I saw his hesitation on offense as deferring to better scorers (of which, we had a bunch). His defense and other aspects of his game are solid, and his offensive skill looked fine when he sought it, so I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
There was one other thing (besides his obvious defensive skill) about NWB that consistently impressed me:

His speed w/ the ball in transition. Dude was fast down the court, made good outlet passes most of the time.

I think, as 1 of 3 guys on the roster who have played meaningful minutes for CSP, he'll have a lot more confidence and hopefully realize this is his, SY, and DJ's turn to be the driving forces on the team. Get aggressive young man.

Whether Brase starts or not is definitely up for debate. I think we will see solid minutes from him off the bench. From what I've seen with highlights of this young man, after he sets screens he rolls off well and can hit the perimeter shot at a decent clip. Good defensively too. Been awhile since we've had any European players. Juri Hubalek was the last one correct? Aside from the kid from Greece that split after year one.

German Lucca Steiger played for a little while.

I love the addition of this guy. I am anxious to see how he fits. In other words, experience "Brase for impact".

All we need is 15 solid minutes a game. Play D, hit a couple threes and grab a couple boards. Tourney bound.
This guy is a lot better than people think if he stays healthy he will be a a key part of this team. Obviously that is a big if but he has a ton of upside he is a very solid player.

I like the fact that he's a 1 year player, it won't threaten future recruits, we need front court depth, he gives us another option while our young bigs develop, he's mature and shows great leadership, he'll help our team GPA...
Watch the vcu game he got hurt in last year. He is a really good basketball player. If he stays healthy he will be a big part of any success we have next year.

Heard the same about too many players before their JR or SR years to make a judgement. You go back to just our last two teams and I can name MT, Burton and Nader that made huge jumps. I think NWB has shown more all around game than Matt or Abdel at a similar point in their careers.

Matt was a 4.9ppg at 33% 3 his SO year in 15.3 min.
Nader was a 5.8ppg at 22% 3 his JR year in 16.4 min.
Burton went from 9.7ppg to 15.1.

NWB at 4.0ppg and 31% from 3 his SO year in 16.5 min.
I think a lot of the time it's simply the increased playing time and usage that makes a player break out. Its got to be hard to get comfortable offensively when your only playing time is in 3-4 minute spurts once or twice a half. Burton showed very little last year that would make someone think he would have the senior year he did. Especially his mid range game. I thin he could have done some of that his junior year, but didn't have the opportunity. We will see if Babb had the ability to make that jump with increased usage.

I understand if you click "agree" or "disagree" but why the hell would anyone chose "dislike" ?

How is Babb being a solid Big 12 starter a bad thing, in any scenario?

Ha I thought the same thing. Sort of puzzling unless they meant "disagree"

Actually, I'm not sure why anyone would want to disagree with that either. It's just a positive opinion. Babb has just as good of a shot becoming a starter at this point as anyone else. Maybe they forgot how well he played coming off the bench at places like Kansas. Does somebody have a magic crystal ball for starters? Nope.

Yeah, before that can even be considered, they'll have to take a look at his mobiltiy - post-surgery - and fitness. He hasn't played more than a handful of games in 2+ years and has had 2 knee surgeries (I presume). I like the idea of him being a starter - and not just because "Hans - Solo" sounds so cool - but there are a lot of things that would have to fall in place with him physically.

Was this ever posted? A few Brase highlights against BYU last year. (First 3 made was a Hans assist.)

It's been hard finding highlights.

Cool to see. I hope he gets back to the same mobility he had before.

And that is the top post on these boards with the word "anknupfen" in it.
