Good point re: why Fred continues to play Matt. I guess it's remotely possible he knows more about Matt's ability than you or other CF posters. Also, no idea why opposing teams don't leave him alone instead of guarding him closely, thereby stretching their defense.

You still have hope, I see. I hope you're right.

Unfortunatley that ranking turned out to be a complete joke. Not sure why Fred still plays him every game. Would love to see a +/- team scoring compared to the other team with and without Thomas. Guessing it won't be pretty.

15 games into his sophomore season and you know that Thomas will never live up to his ranking? You seem extremely offended that Thomas got that ranking. Why does it hurt your feelings so much? I'm sure you would never tell Thomas to his face that his ranking was a complete joke.

Pretty pathetic that our own fan base feels the need to bash one of our underclass men that has been a key factor in a few of our wins.

Did someone seriously just say teams should leave Thomas open? LMFAO

Fred plays Thomas because he knows he's one of the best shooters, and he knows it's only a matter of time until it translates into real games.

Great post, I enjoyed it.

Matt probably hasn't played up to his own standards, but he is also a victim of ridiculous expectations on here. Before he played a game for us posters were already penciling him in to be a 4 year starter and be automatic from 3. It has taken him longer to transition from high school to the Big 12, but I believe he will still be a very solid player for us.

Not a complete joke. He has the ability to start on other teams. Naz is pretty special himself, and the amount of depth we have takes up many of the minutes available. Matt just need to continue to expand his repertoire and keep working. Only a sophomore.

i find it interesting the guys ranked ahead of matt haven't exactly lit the world on fire. frankamp - transfer, frazier - academically ineligble, matt jones - spot minutes at duke, jujuan johnson is horrible at marquette, jabari bird - injured, xavier rathan mayes - ineligible, etc. harrison twins aren't in the nba yet, wayne selden has his issues. its kind of a crazy list.

kendall stephens is doing ok at purdue and I watched thomas kill him in an aau game that summer.

maybe it was just a weak year relative for shooters?

Matt's issue is between the ears. He's never going to be a great defender but he has the physical ability to be a great shooter and be a huge asset. Everyone is growing impatient but I'm throwing my chips in that he comes through with some regularity. If I'm wrong so be it.

I actually think he should take more pullup twos at this point to get rolling. When fred comes out of a timeout and has a play for matt to jack it up from three, the opponents look ready.

Agreed, he seems to flow more naturally on a the pull up. Knock a few of those out, and then the 3's will probably start falling.

Alright, back to recruits. So Bruce Brown plays his AAU ball on BABC. That's where Georges played. I'm sure there is a coaching connection there that will hopefully pay some dividends.

I don't think anyone is "bashing" Matt in this thread. People are just pointing out that he's struggling, which he is. We're all cyclone fans here.

Calling his ranking a joke, question why he is still playing, and one poster implied that one of the shooting guards won't be here next year, but you're probably right that nobody bashed MT.
