Makes sense. Seems like we've all (myself included) been waiting for Thomas to become a lethal deadeye sharpshooter that he was made out to be in high school and that he appears to be in practice. If I'm not mistaken, Thomas is the highest rated high school recruit (rivals ratings) that CFH has gotten. Just wonder if he will ever be more than extreme potential at this point

Yep he's definitely the highest rated high school player that Hoiberg has signed. I'm sure he was great in high school. Granted he lived in a town of 17,000 people and probably wasn't playing against great competition which made him appear better than he actually was. I was definitely excited to watch him last season. Now after watching a year and a half of mediocre shooting and defense by him I can't say that I get very excited when I see him checking into the game.

I seem remember that his former coaches got a low position but, honestly looking on the web right now I can't find any connection. Maybe I am incorrect, though it is safe to say he went to Oregon for the immediate playing time and with ISU current roster that would have been difficult.

And we didn't have a scholarship available when he reclassified. If we would have had one I like to think he would have been our's.

He's not reclassifying to 2015 to redshirt. Minutes will work themselves out like they always do

Minutes always work out because they physically have to. They don't always work out from a player's perspective. SDW didn't transfer even though the minutes were working out for ISU. Somebody won't be happy.

I agree, if he comes in as a 2G next year, he'd likely be looking at a redshirt year. Not too many 4-stars are thinking redshirt. Maybe they're only looking at him if he stays in the 2016 class.

We have a team of great Cyclones, but that is just silly talk.
There's not a lot of minutes for him at SG behind Naz, MT, and Cooke. I don't see how he gets enough minutes next year to be worth blowing a season of eligibility. Unless Fred sees him as a better talent than his #58 Rivals ranking. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have him if Fred wants him. It just seems like an odd fit if he reclassifies. Now if he is more of a PG or a PG/SG combo, that's a different story.

You have no clue what you're talking about. He's not redshirting, end of discussion.

I would assume we are recruiting him for the 2016 class. If we are recruiting him for the 2015 class then one of our guards on the current roster probably won't be here next season.

That was actually my point, which I didn't communicate effectively at all. He's not going to want to redshirt, so I don't see why he would come here if he reclassifies.

JFC. The basketball and recruiting IQ of this site just dropped down to bubble territory with that post.

All I meant was competition around Onalaska Wisconsin probably isn't as good as Chicago or New York.

I figured it was a matter of time before someone started talking ****. That's why I rarely post my opinions anymore because everyone is looking for an argument.

He has lots of time to improve. He just needs to handle pressure better. He will be deadeye **** sometime in the future.

Thomas did very well on the AAU circuit against top notch competition, that's why he was ranked where he was

BINGO. With the HS basketball talk and the redshirt talk I feel like I'm back in 1993.

Unfortunatley that ranking turned out to be a complete joke. Not sure why Fred still plays him every game. Would love to see a +/- team scoring compared to the other team with and without Thomas. Guessing it won't be pretty.

We are looking for arguments, but your opinions are generally a little off.

Very good shooting the 3 and playing zone defense in AAU. I think he's a definite liability on the defensive end and if he's not making shots he's a liability on the floor. There is a reason he's only played 7 min. vs. Baylor, 8 min. vs Kansas and 8 minutes vs. K-State as of late..

Good point re: why Fred continues to play Matt. I guess it's remotely possible he knows more about Matt's ability than you or other CF posters. Also, no idea why opposing teams don't leave him alone instead of guarding him closely, thereby stretching their defense.
