Still say no one will ever take Boise St seriously with their stupid gimmick blue field.

The first thing I would do as an AD if I wanted to get into a P4 conference (pac is just a reworked MtW) is change that field to a natural looking color.

There is a reason no major program or NFL has a alternate color field, only small schools and high schools looking for a gimmick to be different.

I know I know they love their field but they really need to think about it, outside of their AD and Fans, everyone else thinks its a joke.

This is one rule I wish the NCAA would enact. Fields should be natural appearing color, to be consistent across the sport.
I hate watching any game on their field, it just looks so wrong.

When I see that blue Dr. Seuss field on TV, i immediately turn the channel.

I like the blue field, makes them different, you think that is a real reason? I’m actually asking because I never gave that a thought, just being G5 was enough to not take them seriously for me
As others have said, it really hurts their viewability. As those other posters have said If they are playing home I immediately turn the channel, I would possibly watch them sometimes but that blue field makes them almost unwatchable. Being several on here have said the same thing, I would assume there are a lot of people that feel that way, so anything that hurts your product and views is not good. Sure their fans love it and its their image etc, but it just looks like a gimmick, tacky and redneck. Their fans would watch if they had a hot pink field. Hurting their additional viewership outside their direct fanbase is not a good idea.

It also is possibly an unfair advantage to teams not used to playing on a neon blue field. Sure there is no rule against it, but teams in another conference are going to look at that aspect when they vote on adding them to a conference.

It really makes them a low rate, gimmicky program, and I know a lot feel that way about that field. You will never see the a major program or facility with a field like that. Keep in mind I am also not a fan of some of the ridiculous basketball courts out there, but those feel more accepted and watchable than the blue turf. I know for a while TV cameras were having some real problems with the color causing issues, with things washing out etc. But I think they have figured that out. Still doesnt make it any easier to watch, and not get a headache.

Doesn’t help when they also wear all blue. They just blend in. Maybe that’s the point? I don’t know how much they blend at field level perspectives. Rules should be made that at least one of your jersey or pants must contrast with the field.

Does Eastern Washington still have the red field? An even harder watch!

Don’t forget Eastern Michigan’s grey field and Coastal Carolina’s Turquoise one

Notice none of those are a major program or in a major conference. For a school like BSU that wants to be a legitimate program, and wants to get into a major conference, you would think they would understand this.

The gray field I will say is easier to watch and even the turquoise one is too to a point. I have watched a little on that red field and it is just as bad as the blue.

I still think there should be a regulation in place for color being a natural appearing etc field. There are rules for everything else about a field, why not color. It should be consistent across the sport, just like dimensions etc.

Look up Central Arkansas. Stripes.

Its not the field that's keeping Boise out. They also have the highest TV ratings in the G5. People not watching because the turf is blue is hogwash.

They aren't in a power league because they were a JUCO until the late 80s and their academic standards didn't change when they went 4 year. University presidents don't want to be associated with them for academic reasons.

Yup. Boise State makes K-State look like Harvard which is why they are being left out.

More than one thing can be correct in this case.

the most important metric is tv ratings, not attendance. i saw a video where the big 12 and ACC TV ratings were compared and the big 12 creamed the ACC. colo. averaged 3.15 million per game, way ahead of anyone else in either league. ISU and WVU were 7 and 8 in the big 12 respectively.

GT led the acc, with clemson 2nd, and fsu, i think, 3rd. ill find the youtube video and post it later.

I am hoping that with ESPN basically giving away some rights to TBS/TNT. That the Big12 will have very few games on ESPN+, which might boost the ratings of those less desirable games.
