I’m pretty sure they can chill on their chartered plane and then fly back and relax in their multimillion dollar facility while going to school for free and collecting a NIL check and thank god that Rutgers isn’t in danger of having its AD going under.

Again. No one is complaining except people in other conferences who are looking for a reason to
That is funny coming from a B10 symp.

Rest assured that other B10 ADs, especially those from the ET zone, raised a red flag with Petitti to never schedule their teams in a similar situation like what Rutgers is getting effed tonight.

Off the top of my head, Miami played at Cal at a 8pm start time 11pm Miami time. Texas Tech played at Arizona with a 10pm start local time. It’s not just a Big 10 thing.

The Title IX implications are going to be interesting. I guess the House settlement established a formula for athlete back pay that is roughly 90% for football and men’s basketball and then 10% for women. From what I’ve read, the initial plan at most schools is to use that same formula for future spending on athletes as well.

But I can just imagine the outrage and lawsuits that will eventually come from that. The WNBA is about to have lockouts demanding more pay even though the league loses $40m per year so I’m pretty sure female athletes aren’t going to be good with 10% and only a handful of sports at the varsity level while football has over 100 scholarships and millions of dollars in spending.
This. The settlement invites a Title 9 lawsuit.

Games in LA man, that’s why it’s happening at this time. No one from USC is going to be tired and I’m sure they expected USC to be ranked right now too.
Sure WC fan doesn't care. They probably like it. But what about Rutgers fan? I realize Rutgers isn't Penn State from a Big10 pecking order perspective on viewership, but I gotta believe Rutgers viewership might be at most 75% of the norm. Obviously, FOX doesn't care because with the WS lead in, they ratings will probably be at a high.

My point isn't the game shouldn't be played at 11pm ET/8pm PT. But the game could just as easily been 2 PT teams. And my rant isn't only toward the Big10. I would be equally pissed if the Big10 forced WVU/UCF/AZ/ASU to do a similar game.

I get the point and it’s not a horrible one. Sometimes the schedule being more flexible could be a flex. I’m guessing they didn’t want to burry a potential ranked matchup so late but your point is fair.

Hey stop giving him a reason to be mad about something no one else involved is mad about. This is about his feelings not facts.
Another B10 symp getting the facts wrong. The Tech/Zona game was an 8 PM local start time with Tech being one time zone removed. Big time difference from the USC/Rutgers situation.

Cal/Miami was nearly as absurd as USC/Rutgers but it was a 7:30 PT kickoff, not 8 AM like USC/Rutgers.

You realize that there's a good chance that Iowa State will play games that start at the same time in the future, right? ESPN has the right to start games as late as 8:15 local time in SLC, Provo and Arizona. I expect the same outrage when West Virginia, UCF or Cincinnati have to do it.

This isn't a Big Ten thing.

I don't think those 2 games should have happened either. The Miami game started at 10:30 local- but IMO same situation at Rutgers vs. USC. And TT starting a game at 10pm is not good.

At least with the TT vs AZ game the Wildcats were the road team. The flight between Lubbock and Tucson is only 2 hours, so AZ players could get back home the equivalent to a little after bar closing time.

I actually think some of the schools are hoping for a lawsuit just to provide clarity on it. Because some schools may feel pressure to split the spending 50/50 and then that would leave them uncompetitive with schools that split the funding 90/10.

But if they have to split it 50/50, then you are only giving $10m to football (less however much goes to men’s basketball and baseball so call it $8m), which sounds like a lot but it really isn’t.

Are Ohio State football players going to be happy splitting up $8m when the payout from the CFP alone is $21m, plus the media deal approaching $100m, plus however many more millions from bowl game payouts and ticket sales and concessions and merchandise and everything else? It’s going to start feeling like the football team is really getting a very small piece, which will probably result in a movement to unionize and expand the cap above the $20m they initially set it at…

Arizona is currently sharing the same time zone as California. So it would have been a 10pm start for TT. Not 11pm but definitely not early.

1030pm/11pm is pretty much the same to me but if you want to take a W over 30 min. for the Cal/Miami game be my guest.

Yormark and B12 ADs will likely prevent that scenario with the 3 ET schools. If it actually does happen and there is a 3 time zone difference (keeping in mind MST vs EST/EDT differences) like with USC/Rutgers, then similar outrage should be displayed here, even by B10 symps.

1. Do you mean Simps?

2. Arizona State played Cincinnati just last week. They traveled 3 time zones and played at 9am Arizona time. Does that get the same outrage or nah?

This isn’t a conference thing. It’s a TV thing. And it doesn’t apply to just college football.

I’m a Nuggets /Avalanche fan, most of our nationally televised games (even playoffs) start at 8 or 9 PM local. It is what it is.

But when will University Presidents and Athletic Directors walk-the-walk. They keep talking about how athlete wellbeing is top priority!

It's not like there isn't an easy solution. When there is an extremely late (or early) kick or tip have the games played between teams in similar time zones. Not ET vs PT. The solution isn't hard to implement.

I will be disappointed with ISU if Big12 contests start this late locally.

Given tv timeslots and time zones I don’t think we will ever start at 11pm but we will definitely see a 10pm start at some point. We started at 9:15/9:30 last year at BYU. Close enough imo.

Uh never.

And this athlete wellbeing thing is way overblown. They’re traveling 2-3 time zones once a month maybe. Not going to war.
