They don't, that's why, I think, they are trying so hard to get the PAC 12 assets.

Hey Big12, you want this fancy network and all its fancy cameras? How about these hot NCAA tourney credits? Yeah, you like that don't ya.....
Not sure NCAA Tournament credits would follow WSU & OSU to Big12. Plus Big12 doesn't need any fancy cameras or network- we got ESPN & FOX through 2031.

This is about WSU & OSU keeping and cashing in on Pac12 assets. Do they need to keep Pac alive to do that? Or do they cash in and then move to MWC. This is OSU & WSU giving the BIG middle finger to the 10 other Pac12 schools.

Not exactly sure.
Interesting article on SMU buying their way into the ACC.

Inside SMU's pursuit of the Power Five
Reading that, I’m so glad we didn’t take them. SMU boosters sound like a complete future nightmare. They are already trying to pull all the conference championships into Dallas. It’s a smaller version of Texas.

So what does this gain them? The name and assets? Anything else?
And control going forward. Meaning they could literally vote to declare themselves title game participants regardless of record. They could in theory vote to keep all media distribution for the conference as well. It could be a pretty big deal.

That last one is a doozy. I hope they do, seriously. I'm happy that crap is hitting the fan on these teams making a mess.

At this point Neither.

But it gives them time to figure out those things, making it so the others cant out vote them and screw them over more.

If they do get all the assets and name etc, which I think they will. They will have more of a bargaining chip to make something happen for them. Whether that be getting a reverse merger of sorts, adding teams, or taking a lower payout, to gain entry in another conference. The assets can give them a life line while they take less somewhere or until they can get something done.

I would slow down a bit. This just means the league can’t meet until the judge considers wsu/osu’s claims. It doesn’t mean they won on their claims.
Right. This doesn’t mean WSU/OSU have full control of the board, which is their ultimate goal. It just blocks the conference from meeting on Wednesday. WSU/OSU was worried the other schools were going to vote to dissolve the conference at that meeting

There's a lot they could try to do. But it would likely open themselves up to further litigation expense (aka keep more than 2/12 media revenue).

IMO their play is distribution of long-term assets & payment of liabilities after end of Pac 2023/24 fiscal.

I listened to the hearing this afternoon. I believe the judge ruled there cannot be any future meetings without the court's approval. So, if true, it applies past this coming Wednesday.

I believe the court is allowing normal business to proceed. If contracts, etc. need to be approved, the commissioner needs to get written approval from all 12 conference members before proceeding. But there will not be any board meetings until the make-up of the board is settled (unless the court approves the meeting.)

I thought I heard the Pac 12 attorney state there is approximately $500 million of Pac 12 assets.

Something tells me those two schools will be more than happy to share the remaining Pac-12 Liabilities with the departing members.
Wouldn’t the media company just offset the debt by withholding funds from this years PAC 12 distributions? I don’t see the schools cutting a check to pay the debt.

Perhaps. But there is also the Comcast re-payments, and bowl lawsuit against the conference.

I'll defer to the accountants on this board, but the $500M might not be a huge windfall for WSU & OSU if the 2023/2024 media rights contract value is considered an asset that is reduced as revenue is received from networks. That could easily be $250-$300M that will be distributed among the 12 schools.

But even if OSU & WSU are sole beneficiaries of $100M of assets, that would be a nice check to fund their athletic programs over the next 7 years.

I am so bidding on George Kliakoff's name placard from his office door when it hits eBay.

According to these two stories both are covered by offset as I suggested

Cool. I'm sure there are other liabilities as well.
