What are you talking about "independence is much more likely than a superconference?" If the biggest universities actually thought there was any money in doing it they would have done it a long time ago. And don't use Notre Dame as an example - Notre Dame can get away with independence because they are a legitimate national brand. No matter how big the brands of Michigan, Ohio St, Alabama, or Texas are, they are still much more regional brands. Sure, Michigan and Ohio St might have more national cache than Alabama and Texas (who are mostly outright hated outside of their regions), but it doesn't even come close to comparing to the national cache that Notre Dame has.
Yep. Sorry.

OU probably needed more money to sustain their success. Texas would rather lose to the SEC teams where it looks better then to the Big12. They just looked down on the conference and felt they belonged in the SEC, wasn’t really a money move for them
Ah, but if they do as bad as Nebraska has done in the B1G, look for their fans to boycott and picket the stadiums.... tar and feather the coach and administration for good measure. Championships are their bread and butter.

Not sure that's right.

The GOR language states any schools added to the ACC must sign the GOR. That could mean the new schools would fall under existing ESPN media deal. Just like Big12's pro-rata language with ESPN, the ACC deal could have similar language.

I dount adding Cal & Stanford would give ACC leverage to cause ESPN to pay more than existing ACC TV deal.
Just because a conference adds a team the broadcasters are not obligated to increase the payment to the conference, unless their contract says so. However they may chose to increase the payment if through school popularity, viewership is elevated, or if they can be convinced that cross market scheduling can bring in more viewers.

In light of super conference and realignment…here’s this. “We make a lot of money on our thing and we like it”... after living in the SE they are hyper into their team and their conference. Maybe it’s the prevailing model…

Yormark has an A+ from me so far, but if he wants an A++, he will

1) Send Arizona State to Morgantown Week 1 next year
2) Add Stanford and UCONN at a reduced rate
3) Send Stanford to UCONN Week 1 next year
Cross country matchups featuring teams rarely seen on the coasts could be a vehicle to increase Big 12 viewership.

Lol, isn't he the guy who actively tried to destroy the Big 12?

I just want to comment to say how stupid it is to make a bold prediction 50 years out. Legit insane to do so and to think that you have any idea what the world or cfb would be like then.
Can’t wait when I am 101 years old to see if this prediction came true.

I could give a flying F about Texas, not sure why they're garnering so much discussion in this thread. Every Longhorn I've ever met has been a grade-A a-hole. A couple of them drove BMWs too, imagine that. Fitting.
Several years ago I heard a story about a Texan visiting New York City for the first time. As he looked at the Empire State Building, a local heard him remark that it was not so big, "in fact my out house is bigger than that." The local shouted back over his shoulder: "YOU NEED IT!!"

Because the level of back door maneuvering to make that happen is borderline impossible. Plus the money for the AD has diminishing returns. The presidents of the pac didn’t want to leave a sinking ship you really think big ten presidents would leave a super yacht? Borderline insane to think that way. Like I’ve said texas is already giving extra money back to the university, the same thing is being proposed at Michigan with the new deal. All these amazing facilities and coaching salary’s are with the old contracts. With the new ones who the hell knows what they are going to spend all the money on and yet your still thinking that they are going to “need” more and the big ten presidents would go for blowing it all up? No way.
lets see: They could build some super athletic dormitories with exercise rooms, and athletic training facilities with 100 inch televisions, cable and padded recliners. ....... O sorry the blue bloods already have those. So maybe some stretch limos to take the players to class.

Sankey can whine all he wants, but in the end he kicked off this round of realignment. Sure he has the luxury of the SEC being able to stay regional, although expanding the footprint. But some of his comments today were hypocritical.

Edit: Not to mention Finebaum crying about the Pac dying etc. When he has done nothing but **** on anything non SEC for years.

This is eye-opening. This is less “the Big 12 cut in line” and more “the PAC completely misjudged the market.” It’s like they were staring at the menu too long, so the XII walked up to the register and bought the last cheeseburger.
The last word on the Pac 12 boils down to a lack of national exposure for its teams. By being only a west coast conference, no one from the midwest and east coast cared about their games. They needed to balance their west coast games with out of area games in the midwest and east regions. They could have been saved if when the Big 12 went through its problems a merger of the two conferences could have been arranged, allowing their teams into the central region and east to West Virginia.

I believe there are currently 257 division 1 football teams (129 FBS and 128 FCS). What would make by far the most sense is to remove division 1 football from conferences and have some centralized organizing body. Split the teams into 4 levels of 64/65 teams that each have their own playoff. Media contracts are centralized and a portion is paid directly to the players. Each level probably has different numbers of scholarships and other requirements the schools need to meet. Scheduling is centralized with a preference towards regional games and schedule strength balancing based on the past 3 to 5 years. The top level teams play one game against a second level and one game against a third level team early in the season (TV money from those games helps replace revenue from the current 'buy' games). There is a set mechanism for teams to move up or down between levels based upon on field performance.
Sounds like how the European soccer leagues operate, with teams moving up or down depending on records.
