Not exactly sure.
If we land Washington and Oregon, I think we need to slam the brakes on expansion for a bit. The four corners will be there, probably begging at that point. I think pausing at 14 would be the correct thing.

I know it was 100 degrees in LA when this pic was taken, but how many fans do you think would show up to Jack Trice if it was 100 degrees? I'd say 50k..... or 60k if it was against Iowa.
A better measure is how many show up when it's freezing. We were there when we played K-State at home in Bill Snyder's last game. It was freezing and the place was packed. My daughter's boyfriend was with us, from down south in SEC country, and he couldn't believe the atmosphere. We've got the greatest fans!

I agree if you can land the NW schools you slow up on the four corners. Maybe you also take the top 2 of the 4, but you really don't need all 4.

Of course I could also see this being a bluff to shake the 4 corners free. I really feel like landing UO and UW is a long shot.

“But you Midwesterners don’t understand, it was hot! And there are so many other things to do. You can’t get it if you don’t live here #CaliBlessed #HangingAtTheBeach #FootballPartOfTheTime”

I also don’t get why they think “too much to do, can’t go to a football game unless it matters” is supposed to be a selling point. They keep saying it like it’s okay if the stands are half-empty, cause their “fans” have other, more fun things to do. How is that good for the perception of your program? Do you think Indiana or Rutgers is gonna get the fans in seats more than Ball State?

Sure seems like 1 or all of the 4 corners will jump ship soon, and it's gonna be fascinating to see how Oregon and Washington react.

Do they they take the proverbial bird in hand and jump to the Big 12 for a guaranteed bump in security and revenue, or do they hold out for the 2 birds in the bush and wait for a Big 10 invite that may never come?

I'm not a big risk taker, so I know what I'd do if I were them.

As far as I'm concerned, Oregon and Washington are not in the driver's seat, so I hope Yormark doesn't risk hurting the delicate morale of our current conference membership by offering Oregon and Washington special benefits.

You need a geography lesson. AZ doesn't move anyplace. The only one in fact that is static.
You need a timezones lesson. All the timezones around AZ move in synch, so Arizona's time in practice aligns with PDT part of the year and MST the other part is the year. Trust me, half my work team is in AZ, a quarter in CA, and the others sprinkled in the other TZ's. Our coro Meeting times in March and Nov get weird until we adjust to what is essentially AZ'S 'New' TZ.

I have this feeling that the B1G is winning battles while the SEC is better setup to win the war. The B1G is making near term moves, chasing large markets to saddle with their cable network. That model continues to decline. UCLA, Rutgers, and Maryland are all about markets, they don't bring a brand or a fanbase. USC is a good brand with a fair weather fanbase. Nebby is a greatly diminished brand with a loyal fnabase. None of these are homerun additions outside the populations of their TV market.

In the mean time the SEC is collecting big brands with loyal fanbases. UT, ATM, and OU are all in that bucket. I'll give that Mizzou isn't as strong in this regard.

If the future moves more to segmented streaming services combined with high profile games on the big networks, the SEC is better positioned to cash in. They have more big name programs to create the marquee matchups for ABC, CBS, or Fox, plus the rabbit fanbases to buy up the subscriptions for streaming everything else. They will eventually pass up the B1G with this approach.

I don’t think we get OR and WA unless the PAC crumbles, and that means a minimum 2 of the corner schools jumped.

We would have had 40,000 easy for SEMO they might not have stayed to the end but they would have been there in the 1st half.

I'd see what the TV partners say about Utah and one of the AZ schools. If you can at least break even on a per school basis then you go to 16. I don't like the idea of letting the 4 corners go free if you ever have the thought of adding them later. Yes, they may be available later, but their prestige will take a hit in the meantime.

You let them go and then You can sort what you want and probably pick them up and stair step their payment in. Would only take 1-2 years and they wouldn’t get hit too bad.

If you want them you add them ASAP. This isn’t like the ACC where they are tied in.

I take whoever the TV Networks want. A lot will depend on the inventory needs the media partner(s) have for tier 1 & 2 rights.

IMO as the 3rd best league- bigger is better. 16 would be the minimum- I would think Oregon, UW, Utah, ASU are givens if interested. Colorado and UA make sense if we get 2 of the givens.

I have no issue with taking Stanford, Cal, OSU or WSU if the network values them.

The next contract will be for 6-7 years. I view it as an engagement, as we will go through this whole exercise again around 2030. So if OR & UW are looking at joining the Big12 as a quickie- I'll enjoy it for 6-7 years.
