if the PAC implodes then we are likely religating 4 schools to G5 status.

what is wrong with reorganizing the G5 a bit by pulling some better regional/competitive G5 options and shelving some current P5 schools?

plus... i would love ISU to have road games in Las Vegas or San Diego or New Orleans, etc...
The main thing is that none of them earn their cut of the revenue at a moment when it's critically important that the Big XII establish itself as the #3 conference. The only way to do that is by ensuring it's members make more than they could anywhere else outside of the Big 10 and SEC. Additionally, numerous current P5 programs with values that dwarf are or will likely become available in the next ~10 years. The Big XII shouldn't fill it's ranks with random G5 schools when much better options are going to be available.

I'd love it if Iowa State occasionally played a road game within a day's drive for me. But I'd like it more if the Big XII is the #3 conference and was well position for whatever further realignments come next.

I am skeptical that the Big 12 will be the #3 conference. ND could really mess this all up and form its own conference headlined by ND, Clemson, Oregon to counter B10's tOSU, Michigan, USC and SEC's Alabama, Georgia, OU. Deals could be done, blood could be shed, some schools wouldn't survive. Where that could leave the Big 12 is anybody's guess.

The Big 12 could continue to pick up the scraps. Maybe it'll be the cool, hip league that's still needed, yet continues to be treated like the little brother. Or, maybe it won't even be considered a top tier league and it'll be forced to have it's own playoff, similar to the NIT. Oh god. Positive thoughts, positive thoughts.

ND forming their own conference is waaaaaay down my list of things to worry about.

For a very large portion of the fanbase they are indeed the same. We're currently in the top tier, the Power Five. Lose that, and people like me (unfortunately we're the majority) will lose all interest. And if that happens it's an existential threat to ISU football.
Cincinnati just made the CFP from the AAC. 3 AAC Schools just joined the Big 12. In no universe would a MAC school have done either of those. They are not the same. Yes they are below Tier 1, but just because a very large portion of the fan base is clueless about something doesn’t make it true.

Agreed... they are actively doing everything in their power to NOT join a conference. Why would they form one themselves?
ND is not going to form their own conference. They’re about to get $75 million for just their home games from NBC.

They will stay independent until the ACC breaks up. Whenever that happens, which could be as long as 2035? they’ll then join the Big 10 because they have like every rival there.

If the PAC 12 is just gonna add teams to add teams they’re screwed. I mean, they’re already screwed but they’re just delaying the inevitable. And I think (hope) the 4 corner schools plus Oregon and Washington know that. The ratings won’t change and the money will just get divided even more.

And if Oregon and Washington want a bigger piece of the pie, the 4 corner schools won’t like that at all. They literally have a life raft (the Big12) sitting right there for them. Swallow your stupid ******* pride and jump ship.

If a new conference would be formed, I think ISU would be part of it. We are the number 2 team in the new Big 12 (maybe BYU ranks higher and we are 3).

This is funny. Who are they going to get? I don't think CIT, UCSB, UCSD, The Colorado School of Mines, or the Anteaters are ready to step up to P5 football.

SMU is a very good school, although it is religious, which may also not align with what the coastal schools are looking for.

San Diego State and Colorado State are both ranked higher in USNWR than Wazzu and Oregon State.

After that, the options get kinda rough. All of these would be the worst in the Pac-12:

*Fresno State is tied with Texas Tech,
*Nevada is between that and West Virginia,
*UNLV is tied with West Virginia,
*Boise State is in the "unranked" group that couldn't crack the top 300.

Meh, I think you think too highly of yourself, most ISU fans have sat thru yrs of mediocre to bad football. If there is a entertaining product on the field I think at least 40,000 will show up.

Why do people still prefer AZ to ASU?
ASU football historically better, more students and more alumni. PHX>Tucson.
I don't know if it's necessarily a preference -- from the quote it seems like the asu ad is delusional

if what's been rumored about the tv contract numbers is anywhere close to true, arizona state should join the big 12 in a heartbeat

instead they are sitting on their hands evidently and think they're going to add some hidden football powerhouse ivy league school in idaho to replace usc

(also it's not like asu is known for academics)

again if there's any truth to the numbers, the big 12 rolling up with a lifeboat to save asu athletics, but they might go down with the ship instead
