So If this happens, I think the announcement could be anytime between this afternoon to whenever the Pac 12 deal runs out (believe it's summer of 2024).

Honest question here, do you think a ton of isu fans would pay $25 per month to watch their team? Only reason why I ask is people keep pointing out how cheap the fan base is. I have no idea if this is actually true but it is something I see posted regularly in regards to donations and NIL. Obv paying to watch the games is different then those things which is why I ask the question.
Not sure how many would. I have said for years I would rather pay $25/ month to watch ISU everything and completely skip any and all other college and ESPECIALLY pro sports of any kind. I'd pay more to watch Big 12 all together and skip all the other stuff. I don't give a rip about anything that does not in some way involve my team. Presently I have to pay for all that wonderful content that I never use. I am in Iowa and I watch maybe 3 Iowa games a year (guess which ones). BUT, I am a FANATIC about my team. Probably not even close to the norm.

I DO NOT UNDERSTAND anyone who watches college sports to watch just "the best teams". That does not make them wrong. That does not mean they aren't in the vast majority. But, I know at least 20 people that are more like me than the other way around that would easily pay $25 / month to watch their Cyclones.

AND, I would give MORE to watch my Cyclones and not ***** about it if I knew most of the money was going to ISU and not to all the other highfalutin ******* conferences that ESPN and FOX are setting up to take the payday. I would get out of ESPN so fast it would make their head spin and feel GREAT about it. (They, of course, would not give a rip.)

A big wild card in all this is our new commissioner. Is he really the shark that folks are saying he is? I hope so.

Another key point on SDSU - size of media market of the city where the university is located is not relevant to media value unless you are joining the B1G. In the B1G, they have used their leverage to force the Big 10 Network onto basic cable in the local areas where the team is located, which makes Rutgers still a good value proposition despite relatively poor athletics and fan attendance. The B12 does not gain value from that. Only actual TV viewers.

I love San Diego the city and would be happy to visit it for an away game. But there's a big thing that Colorado brings that San Diego doesn't - an established fan base and football brand that brings TV viewers and therefore TV revenue. SDSU is not an up and comer - they've had some success at lower level football but haven't had any wins over the big boys. There's no evidence their fanbase or TV viewership is growing either. SDSU brings mediocre football and no money value. No reason to add them.
I love the absolutes some posters use. No evidence, no money value, no reason.

While I agree that SDSU is far down on the list of adds, their pedigree as a mid major isn't all that different than Cincy, UCF or Houston. The Big12 added those 3 programs with the believe that being in a P5 conference will elevate those programs over time. Using house buying vernacular- they are in good locations and the buildings have good bones.

Along with BYU, if the Big12 adds UU, ASU, UA then down the line SDSU could make sense. It would give the Big12 visibility in So Cal a growing population area.

There's no hurry to add a SDSU, but they could grow into a P5 school. Same as our 3 recent adds.

We added schools with potential because we didn't have any better options at the time. We had to promote the best mid majors available because there was nothing else. If the opportunity comes to snag an existing P5 instead you take it. To continue the analogy, those schools are move in ready.

But there are only so many P5 adds. Sure ACC schools may come available. But that might be 10+ years.

But if down the line, the Big12's media partner sees value in getting bigger (20-24 teams), then SDSU makes sense. An Amazon or Paramount+ might look at this different than Fox or ESPN.

In 2012 it made sense for the Big10 to add Rutgers. In 2028, it might make sense for the Big12 to add SDSU.

Swaim used to be a good recruiting guy, not sure but sounds like he's supposedly quoting assistant coaches that he has relationships with. It would be like CW using an unnamed assistant ISU coach.

Mhver is a total troll.

I wouldn't believe anything unless The Athletic, Espn, or fox sports reports it as fact.

Hope one day there is a streaming service that shows all the Big 12 football and Men's basketball games, without any location lock. Would pay a premium for that.

Except the ACC really isn't #3, especially given the plunging attendance figures (they averaged nearly 13,000 a game less than the Big 12...and have zero opportunity to address payouts until 2036. ESPN wants you to think they are #3. And like you said, the exit fee of $52M could be overcome in less than two years if teams like Clemson and Florida State move to the SEC...the increase is SEC dollars overwhelms the exit fee in few months...and then the conference implodes as their media rights head south and other teams get picked off.
Are those attendance numbers for the Big 12 with or without OUT?

Thread from another CFB writer confirming what seems to be the consensus at the moment, that Pac schools are trying to stick together. They've clearly realized, correctly, that they don't have to rush into any panic moves at this moment. Probably not great for our chances to land them.

Living in B1G country, I'm terrified by this potential future. My favorite spot to watch the games is in one of a handful of bars, and they'll happily put ISU on a TV for us now (the audio, even, if Wisconsin isn't overlapping), but that may go away with streaming only.
