The news seems to be pretty quiet as of late. As such I think we can put to bed the rumor of any PAC-12 schools joining the Big XII.

This stuff rarely moves quite as fast as people think it does. It seems fast in hindsight, but living it it might be a couple month process.

Sorry in my mind there needs to be a divorce between the Big 12 and the Big 10/SEC. Big 12 grabs everyone they can and develops one overarching governing structure. The NIL discrepancy could eventually allow B12 to grab the leftovers of Big 10 and SEC. Then in the new structure college football can be reworked and saved. Even when the dust settles some of the luckier programs are going to get sick of the same teams in the playoffs every year and sick of the no limit NIL.

It happened pretty quick for OU, UT, USC, and UCLA it seemed like.

Seemed like is the important part of that. In both cases those were negotiations that took several months before they actually came through.

yes I think when administrators make decisions like this they go through every option available and will probably take a while

it would be interesting to go back in time to 2011/2012 to see how far apart the announcements were during that stage of realignment

Agree. Nothing happens with the 6 PAC teams until they can get feedback on what a revamped PAC TV deal would look like. That doesn't happen over a holiday weekend.

IMO, only move that could happen sooner is OU and UW to the Big10 as there isn't any discussion that needs to happen. If they offer, you go. While the Big12 may be a better deal for these schools, it isn't so far different that you don't need to do your due diligence.

The Big 12 can wait until next summer to add anyone and in fact if it happens that's when I would expect it.

The big 12 doesn't need to have an answer until they start their own tv negotiations which isn't for a couple of years and USC and UCLA aren't scheduled to leave for a couple years when the current tv deal runs out.

This stuff doesn't usually happen overnight.

ACC is third, but they are very vulnerable because of their unfavorable TV deal. They are locked in for like $30 million a team until 2035. If they try to renegotiate, then that would probably absolve their GOR deal and teams could bolt. If they don't renegotiate, then teams like Clemson, FSU, Miami and such will be looking to leave because teams in their own state will be making $80 million plus. They are in a really bad spot.
Except the ACC really isn't #3, especially given the plunging attendance figures (they averaged nearly 13,000 a game less than the Big 12...and have zero opportunity to address payouts until 2036. ESPN wants you to think they are #3. And like you said, the exit fee of $52M could be overcome in less than two years if teams like Clemson and Florida State move to the SEC...the increase is SEC dollars overwhelms the exit fee in few months...and then the conference implodes as their media rights head south and other teams get picked off.

Texas announced they were leaving on July 27

The new schools accepted invitations September 10
From what I can tell back in the day, Nebraska announced they were leaving on June 12, and then Colorado announced on June 14. Wow that's closer than I thought.

Then A&M and Missouri I think were like a year later.

It was less reactionary than that though.

The PAC had been working with several schools (including colorado) for months. Nebraska had been talking with the big 10 for months.

Colorado decided to jump alone, probably after reports similar to this came out and colorado worried it might get left out entirely

The only thing that actually happened fast in that situation was Beebe figuring out a deal that would keep most of the powers that be happy for another TV contract.

That mess got the ball rolling on A&M\Mizzou talking with the SEC, and a year later (so again, a lot of time for parties to fully consider ramifications) those parties were ready to make their move.
