Who are we counting as the NW corner?
Who are we counting as the NW corner?
You know nobody’s going the big 12 yet. If Iowa State had a chance to get into the b1g you wouldn’t take a few days, literally how long it’s been so far, to collect yourself? Not being able to make up their mind whether they should hold out for B1G or not mainly. Just flat out being wishy washy. The Big Xii teams should really want to be in the Big Xii. I think that would be the case with the four corner schools.
Who are we counting as the NW corner?
uh, Utah?
There is no SE one, though. Doubled up in the SW.
My answer to this is Arizona and Arizona State. They fit REALLY well culture-wise in the new Big 12.
ISU does have value ranking 27th in ratings last year. However the context is with other conferences. ISU’s ratings were only above Illinois, Maryland, northwestern, and Rutgers in the big ten (barely above Illinois but also just barely behind Indiana). So while ISU will have value it might just not be seen as value compared to most of the P2. ISU will be just fine especially as the ratings have been on the rise lately. This is what I don’t understand. People say “Iowa State adds no value” but these stats clearly say otherwise. This isn’t a case of potential eyeballs, these are the numbers of people actually watching the damn games!
The same thing kind of showed when the Rams moved out of St. Louis. Ratings were way down (at least at first, I’m sure they’re better now) when they moved to LA but the franchise got a huge jump in worth solely do to the potential of the market. What the hell is the difference if less people are actually watching them?
I saw Phi Slamma Jamma in person! @ LSU in 1983-4. Man, could they PLAY!
AZ schools aren't high academia places. And the Pac12 has the best public school in the country (maybe world), along with Stanford and Cal bringing in world class education (adding thee film school of the world, USC) just from California. It drops off a lot with OSU, ASU, UA, WSU ..... UW and UO pretty darn good. No idea on UT.Many PAC teams still aren't looking at it correctly. There seems to be a strong mindset there that academics matter more than revenue and they don't associate with average or below-average schools. When counting championships they're looking at all sports, not just sports they should care about. I expected that sentiment from Stanford-Cal, but feel I've seen it from a few of their other schools as well. Until they realize they're being left way behind, you might see them try to stick it out together.
If Iowa State had a chance to get into the B1G, you sign that **** like yesterday and schedule a national press conference immediately. You know nobody’s going the big 12 yet. Meh, you’ve got to have a partner to dance. It might take months operating at 10 members or a big 10 Oregon move for some schools to realize the PAC just isn’t going to work. That would be unfortunate for everybody involved. Tread water while the Big10 and SEC keep working on their grand plans.

Attendance numbers don’t matter at all.

'Bama was down by 'Bama standards but not down like Neb. is now. They haven't gone more than 3 years in a row w/o a 10 win season since 1981-5, and they went 39-18-2 in that stretch with an SEC Championship and 3 Bowl wins.Lot of things changed to allow for Nebraska’s fall. Just becuase a school is in a top position doesn’t mean they will stay there. Tenn football, Georgetown/Indiana basketball, etc. There is no rule that OSU and Bama have to remain dominant and NIL is already shifting things. Not that long ago Bama was like Nebraska is now, a shadow of former greatness.
Disagree that attendance numbers don’t matter. They can be a reasonable proxy for willingness of a fanbase to proactively seek out and pay for content in a new media world. TV ratings are more important, but there’s a lot of self-fulfilling prophecy that makes it hard to judge. You can’t compare an FS1 game to an ABC game. Opponent, time slot and network have massive influence. For example, Oregon looks way better than ISU, but if you compare ABC, Fox, and ESPN games they are very similar, Oregon just had more such games.ISU does have value ranking 27th in ratings last year. A HUGE bargaining chip for the Big Xii. Gve the Big Xii 4 Pac teams, and OuT are set free!In return, the Big 12 agrees on making a deal with them to get UT and OU to the SEC in 2024.
The Utah schools and the Arizona schools should have been added around 2002 if the big 12 was run properly, but nobody had any visionI think a stable big 12 all these years could've easily added 2-4 of the Utah and AZ schools (as those markets grew and grew over the years) while keeping the rest of the country out of Texas in a significant way...it would've been fine.
Big 8 and SWC were on their own doomed though. Arkansas leaving SWC is the match spark of the whole thing.
Right now the original Big 12 with no Texas inroads for SEC would be CRUSHING the $$$ the ACC and Pac are looking at. Could easily have held tight, picked off a few from ACC and Pac...and it's big 3 instead of big 2. Nebraska/Texas egos just stupid. At least Texas has a path to relevance regardless of where they play if they reboot their culture, Nebraska should've done everything possible not to rock the boat.
And Larry Micheaux and Benny Anders!Reid Gettys!
Would not surprise me at allThe current rumor is that Fox and ESPN are refusing to negotiate at this time. If true, that would be an ominous sign for the future of the PAC 12.
BYU did (is still doing it) it for a while. Had their own deal with ESPN.I could have missed it, but I don't see anyone saying anyone other than nd can realistically be independent
