I think it was ASU that was claiming that valuation. I think they had some professor at the university that specialized in some kind of sports media/marketing/mangement. It’s kind of why the ASU AD was in the news a lot during that time period.
Apple made a lowball PAC offer which Oregon and Washington were never going to accept. Amazon may have as well. Netflix didn't make an offer.
Yeah, saw something yesterday that by end of 2025 ESPN plans to launch it's standalone subscription service. I wonder if the planned Venue platform has been mothballed after Fubo's legal challenge.
Platforms like YTTV cost around $35 when they launched about 8 years ago, now they are all over $80/mo (except sling).
That will have a huge impact on multi-channel platforms, whether they be streamers or cable. Feel like the future is content platforms like Amazon, Netflix, Apple, etc and then customers will purchase additional content a la carte like ESPN, Peacock, etc.

All conferences have a “challenge” like in basketball for non-con along with 1 G5 team.
The few that can’t schedule a G5 can have an FCS and rotate who gets the FCS games.
So, Iowa State gets 1 ACC, 1 Big 10, 1 SEC, 1 G5/FCS. Then you can have a better barometer for which conferences get # of teams in the playoff. Mainly suggesting, if conference leaders/committee/ncaa control the noncon, the data for playoff teams gets that much better.
This would make it harder for Notre Dame to make an attractive schedule but maybe it forces them into a conference.

Once ESPN launches their own network they can more accurately track which schools drive subscriptions. Not sure if this helps ISU or not, but it should take some of the bias of networks out of the equation.
The NBA can’t either, but it just got an 11 year, $75 billion deal with ratings not as good as top P2 football.
What would combined BIG and SEC get selling coupled regular season and postseason for football like NFL, then doing same for basketball?
IMO it’s not a coincidence that the college football and college basketball postseason deals expire at same time.
You missed the part about a lot of games.
It’s unequivocal that currently the biggest brands in college football generally don’t play on espn+ or ACCN, instead those mediums are frequented by low drawing football programs

I think its funny to think that congress will do anything more than having hearings where they spend a day or two performing political theater, while they interview a few media execs and some conference commissioners. Then.... do absolutely nothing with any information they get.
If anyone thinks congress will do anything beyond this, they have not paid attention to anything that has happened in congress for the last couple decades. Seriously, how many times have they paraded CEOs and anyone else they think is useful in front of congress, to be interrogated with pointed questions full of talking points and other hot topics to gain some political clout. And even when they receive any confirmation to anything they are trying to prove, they do absolutely nothing with the information.
I think there is a chance congress has a hearing about realignment, I think there is absolutely no chance they do anything beyond that.
To be honest they may not even have a hearing, instead a congressman from an affected state speak to "congress" on the issue. Which if anyone knows is just a congressman or Senator, standing and lecturing a mostly empty chamber, beyond a few interns who are half asleep and a camera. I have seen this first hand and again is just more political theater to the camera to make it appear they care about an issue to their constituents pushing the issue.

And what Congressperson from Georgia is going to stand up and argue in favor of any antitrust action that would disrupt the current set up for the Bulldogs. Or Louisiana and the Tigers. Or Kentucky and the Wildcats. Or Mississippi and the Rebs and Bulldogs. Or Michigan and the Wolverines and Spartans. Or Tennessee and the Vols. Or Texas and the Longhorns and Aggies. Or Oklahoma and the Sooners. Or California and the Bruins and Trojans. Or Washington and the Huskies. Or Oregon and the Ducks. Or Wisconsin and the Badgers. Or Minnesota and the Gophers. That'd be about the fastest way to garner a whole lot of hate from a majority of voters in your state.
It's a little like a major corporation opening offices in every state to create 'influence'. No different with the conferences. The only big difference is budgetary or anti-trust. Budgetary is not large enough. And 'anti-trust' laws are so antiquated, they'll never be breached until the guys on the hill adjust them.
Yep, the only places that might have someone speak out would be maybe a state like Kansas or Arizona, where it might affect all the major schools in that state. But it would be nothing more than pandering to those constituents in their state, and would go nowhere further.
Unfortunately the people who have the sway to influence Congress are the same people who benefit most from the consolidation of wealth in the current system.
And as others have said, the regular person who thinks “UGA good, make playoffs, go SEC” have no interest in voting for someone who wants to blow that up.

As posted multiple times, Fed intervention is not only Congressional, it will be primarily Judicial. ESPN/Fox had their Venu initiative essentially shut down so it is not out of the realm of possibility that similar action by both branches could also neuter the ESPN/Fox CFB duopoly destroying 25-30 more ADs like Fox already has done with Oregon St and Washington St.
If athletics departments begin to suffer across the board by the lack of regulation, the NCAA or whatever governing body at that time best fits, will petition for the antitrust exemption that brings it back under the control of the athletics administrations. We aren't there yet, it's going to need to get worse before it gets better.
