The Big Ten actively wanted SC/UCLA. They knew they could wait out Oregon/Washington and get them at a discount if the Pac 12 blew up. Had the Pac 12 stayed alive, they wouldn't have taken them.
I look at it differently.

Fox/TV wanted SC/UCLA and was willing to pay full price for them.

They only wanted UW/UO half as much, and were only willing to pay half for them.

The conferences have some agency, they can decide where to sit on the bus. But TV/media owns and drives the bus.

You really have to wonder if after the ACC goes up in smoke is that the end of this, or we will just move onto the next step of super conferences or NFL light.
I see where Clemson and FSU are again talking to the ACC and the league is looking at uneven media rights dollars to the two schools. Wonder if the league is thinking that without Clemson and FSU other schools will also be looking to leave and they could very well end up like the P12?

I can't believe UNC or UVA will be thrilled about taking less than FSU or Clemson...

By giving into Clemson and FSU, the conference will be hurting itself with the other member schools. Which will cause UNC and UVA to start approaching the B10 if for nothing more than a safety net if the ACC implodes on itself.

Like always the B10 will be sitting there, ready to collect from the disaster and then lay the blame on someone else for another conference going up in smoke.

I think it in this case, if and when, the ACC implodes the blame will fall squarely on two institutions.

PAC died because the big ten stole the LA schools and everyone else then got blamed.
I know and I’m not disputing that. I’m talking about the ACC here.
I know where you're going but I'm going to somehow blame Texas and Oklahoma

**** those guys
Ok, well my point being when the ACC implodes they won’t blame other conferences, it’ll all fall on FSU/Clemson. The two schools openly and publicly trying to sue their own conference. There’s a difference between this and what happened to us and the Pac.

Nah, if ESPN truly wanted to keep the conference together, they would. And it appears they are now working to keep the conference intact through 2030.

And Fox (who owns all B10 TV rights) and the USC guys in their shop are primarily to blame for the PAC breakup.

I get it.

I'm still blaming Texas and Oklahoma for everything.

This is America and they tried to kill our conference. **** them.

I agree with you, but just like we blame UT and OU for our troubles, I think USC pulled the pin on the grenade. They voted against the PAC expanding while they very likely were jockeying to leave in the background. Had they backfilled with UH, BYU, whatever then that may have saved the PAC, assuming they take the deal from ESPN that the XII took.

I do get upset when the B1G acts like USCLA and UW/UO just fell on their lap. They’re not blameless in this.

I wonder if we are going to all look back on this one day and think of the past 15 years the same way as I think about the "tight rolling my jeans days". Why?

Got Northwestern @ Washington, then @Rutgers. USC at Maryland, Rutgers at USC, UCLA at Rutgers, Cal @ Miami, Cal @ Florida state, BYU going to a heated rivalry game in Orlando, etc....

The crazy thing is if they just would have left things alone and just expanded the playoffs, the sport would be better off. Destroying all these leagues for the sake of paying millions out to players and building more facilities is not what I think was intended.
Just wake me up when the SEC and BIG get done jerking themselves off.

There is like 0% chance that Cal/Stanford would have agreed to take UH, BYU or SDSU due to academics and Religious affiliation. I didn't love the UH add to the BIG 12 at the time, but it really did limit options for the Pac-12 to expand after USCLA departed

Forget backfilling with Houston, BYU or other recent promotions, the PAC could have merged with the Angry 8 when word got out Texas and Oklahoma were leaving the B12. There were talks, but USC reportedly nixed the idea. That alone would have ensured enough schools to survive even with the loss of USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington. Additionally, there wouldn't have been a B12 to jump the line and take the media deal the PAC passed on.

By the time the shoe was on the other foot, it didn't make financial sense for the B12 to take in all the remaining PAC schools.

SIAP but as some have mentioned, this unequal revenue share for the FSU and Clemson’s in the ACC is just a stop gap. In the end, the minute either of them can move and get an invite to move to the Big Ten or SEC, they will.

Yeah you’re right no one will place any blame on FSU and Clemson. It will never get mentioned.

Should USC get some of the blame? Absolutely. But the Pac would still be together today if George would have just taken the deal we took or found any suitable deal for that matter.

Remember though, it was Utah that said they were worth like 50MM.
