I just found this while reading the story about the theft charges against McDowell, etc.

"Chizik also announced in the press release that sophomore running back Josh Johnson, who was listed as a backup, has "been dismissed from the program for multiple violations of team rules."

Sounds like Chizik is cleaning house.

fine with me. Harris looked good in spring game, Scales is a decent back, and hopefully Bass pans out. From all the hype Johnson was getting, i didn't think he ever looked impressive, and if he can't get with Chizik's system, he doesn't need to be around.

Damn, I would gladly give up Vargas, Montgomery, and McDowell, but losing Josh Johnson is a tough one. I know he didn't impress a whole lot of people last year but I think if he would have had the opportunity to redshirt last year as a true freshman that he would have been a solid back in the future. If we lose 4 players a month, we won't have a team by the time bowl season rolls around.

This is ISU, we will lose at least 3 running backs during the year, we need all the depth we can get.

Guys that can't follow the rules don't need to be around. Good FB players are disciplined and are attentive to the details in their assignment on the field.

Who cares about any of these guys anyway. I surely wont be crying over losing some of Mac's recruits.

If I remember right, half our roster is running backs or converted running backs. Seems some new blood is in order at that position. As poor as we were last year at that spot, you would think even an above average back would have risen to the top. I hate to be negative on this, but we have to face facts. Maybe Johnson isn't really that good anyway. If he was, he would have contributed.

According to the article...

Vargas
Mcdowell
Montgomery

Are "suspended" not dismissed like JJ....maybe they will be back...

McDowell will be sorely missed as remainder of defensive backfield could barely play Div 1 ball. That is weakest area on the team outside of oline puzzle.

If we are still talking about playing when bowl season rolls around then I think what Chizik is doing is working just great!

McCarney raved about Johnson during the summer and then when the season started he rarely played. I agree a redshirt year would have benefited him. It's disturbing all these players getting in trouble.

Josh could have been a great runningback, he had potential... we are going to have to recruit some backs

I couldn't agree more Kuney. Nothing against Dan Mac but he talked about Johnson last year like he was the second coming of Troy Davis... and then he never touched the ball.

Other than JJ Bass, hopefully Cameron Bell can step up and provide some competition/depth. I'm not sure if Cameron is a juco or incoming freshman.
