Annnnddddd here comes the wind down here in SE Iowa. Just in time for bed!

Preschool had a field trip to the apple orchard by Jefferson today. Mr. Deal, the owner, was not too happy about the high wind forecast during prime apple harvest. They can’t use any apples that hit the ground except to use with the apple slingshot in the play area.

My transplanted white pines (dug up as seedlings years ago in NE Wisconsin) have really begun producing pine cones. This morning the ground in my back yard is littered with them, thanks to the wind. Good news is they make great firestarters when we decide to have a fire in the fire pit, which coincidentally should be tonight!

Y'all stop over if you can, there's plenty of brandy and even stuff for s'mores. :)

Well, Dr. SCyclone is on call. The vixen has contracted some sort of cold/flu illness, she has a sore throat/cough/fever/chills mixture going. So I put her to bed when she got home from work last night, made some nice chicken soup, made her take NyQuil (she hates the taste of it, but it did help her sleep), and kept quiet so I didn't wake her up. Just hope I don't get it - I have a house to paint this weekend!

The rain must have made my hummers hungry - there are a dozen of them on the four feeders outside my window right now. I wanted to post a video of them in here a few days ago, but apparently my phone records in MP4 format and I can't get that to work on CF.

I'm open to suggestions on how to work that, but in the meantime, if you're FB friends with me, I've put a couple of them on there. They're adorable!

In the one week that I didn't open alerts, I have 164. Its a pain to figure out if I was quoted or liked, so I'm ready to kill them off, but after this many, part of me wants to see if I can beat Keeps 600. If I unblocked a few posters in the ISR I would probably be at 250 since a couple yap incessantly.

hummers and rain seem to go together.

Can you upload them to YouTube and then post the link?

There have been a hummingbird or 2 hanging out around the house the last couple weeks. They love the hostas apparently. Just thought you would like that.

I go to church with the Deals and they are the nicest people you could ever meet. They are both ISU grads as well. Their son married Tracy Paustian who used to play WBB for Iowa State. They put so much work into that orchard and it definitely shows; I try to go at least once every year during their big fall festival weekend.

@wxman1 Have you found a yellow shirt? A suggestion, do you know any printing shops? They would probably have a plain yellow shirt you could get your hands on.

I am running through a couple stores today and am may look to get actual ISU shirts versus the yellow shirts we have. I may even have a unworn shirt or two that I have in the drawer. Too small for me and too large for oldest. Will have to rummage through things today, but I know we at least have something yellow.

Wife leaves, I go into our bedroom and notice the bathroom light on so I shut it off thinking, why can't she just shut the **** thing off. 15 minutes later I walk back into our room and another set of lights are somehow on in the bathroom (I turned them all off). Is she now turning these stinkin things on with her mind. My word!

Observations from Boxsters weather station: The wheelbarrow I left outside yesterday is over 3/4 full of water. The hammer rain did a number on potted mums I just bought.

And, on a Chaser note, Target just updated my shipping notice. Propane deck table is, of course, going to arrive today and sit outside on my porch until I get back.

Well that was strange. Attempted to come to this site to see what's up and the front page not only indicated that I needed to log in, it also showed me the cookies agreement at the bottom. I clicked the right thing for it, but could not get the sign in screen to appear. Undaunted, I decided to look at the new posts and, low and behold (where did that phrase come from?) I was signed in.

Wish I knew why yours get along and mine don't. We have tons of hummingbirds around now, but all they want to do is chase each other off! Every once in awhile two will feed together, but it's rare.

I told her she shouldn’t be making out with me when I was sick, but she just wasn’t listening.
