Random Thoughts XII - This Thread Delivers

Morning goal was to revise my upper-level course syllabus for this UNT app.
Things didn't work, but ideas started to roll in the car on the way home.
Z raced inside, I typed furiously, and this is a course they really need now. It's strong, like "I wish I'd ever had a course like this" strong.

Next order of UNT business will be an e-mail double-checking class sizes and indicating that I'm doing serious research in assembling this stuff.

If they will go down your toilet, I guess you could call them "flushable." You can probably flush a lot of things, but there are certainly some you shouldn't.
 
So we were all set to go to Muscatine to pick up our repaired vehicle; just waiting on the "all clear" phonecall. Well, it came, except it wasn't "all clear." The test drive revealed that, while the first transmission issue appeared to be fixed, another "still under warranty" problem has cropped up. So it has been over two weeks with only one car. I'm not recommending a Jeep Patriot to anyone.

I think it would be fun to own a Jeep, but all I ever hear is negative about them. Poor ride vs. others in their class, maintenance issues, etc. I think that is part of the reason they had to start their "It's a jeep thing." campaign. Make Jeep owners feel like they are part of an elite group who are smarter than everyone else - "nobody else gets it" - rather than showing how their product is superior.

My BIL had two of them in succession but he just couldn't justify getting the third. He's been very happy with his new ride. Sorry, I can't remember what it is.
 
@wxman1 I’ll move this here. Just got a message that he can’t even get to PHL out of DSM right now due to weather out there. Open ended delay. Not sure what time his flight back is on Thursday, I think he has started taking the direct flight from DSM to PHL that opened up in May even though it is not with his company’s preferred airline. Just so much less hassle flying direct, especially when hehas to go at least once a month. But not less hassle on days like this . .

Of course he had all last week off and it rained every day. This week will be sunny and 80 here. Working in PA all week where it is supposed to rain all week.

Being a farmer, I knew that would be a problem. Just figured step A had to happen before B could happen. Also, I kinda laugh when I think of that little fella trying to finish the deed. I don’t laugh about the other.

(Our washer empties directly into the drain in our basement floor) Other units started to complain of water, too. Once the plumber put the camera through, he discovered a blockage of feminine products and q-tips right where the property pipe joins with the city sewer pipe. At least, that's what our landlord told us. Plumber burnt out his tools trying to break it up, so they had to get RotoRooter from Osky to come down and finish it.

Not sure what happened, but I hope our landlord figured it out and evicted whoever did that.

Seriously, doesn’t it not seem like something that shouldn’t be flushed down the stool. I gave a pass when a friends kid flushed Skeletor down the stool (didn’t know the blockage til I hooked it and it popped out), but he was like 2 or 3.

IMO it really depends on the person. I was in the Navy for 4 years right out of HS. Got an engineering degree at ISU after I got out. I will tell you this. If I would've gone to college right out of HS, I probably would not have had the discipline I needed to get through it.

I also agree that everyone should have a job in the restaurant industry, for a little while. I can guarantee you would be a better than average tipper.

I worked at a restaurant and never got a tip. You think those Big Macs cook themselves?

Some people think that if you can get it down - even if you have to use the plunger - it went down fine and you can do it again. It's why people put grease down the drain so much, too. "I don't know how that could be the problem, I've been dumping grease down that drain for five years and never had a problem."

To me it is akin to "What do you mean I don't have any money left? That can't be right, there are still checks in my checkbook!"
 
On a conference call with a service delivery manager that hears what he wants to hear and just seems to make up stuff as he goes along. You tell him no something is not being done and he'll turn around and tell the client "I'm pretty sure they're doing that"
