Yeah, 30 minute Skype interview. Committee chair even noted desperation. Someone suddenly, surprisingly left and they're scrambling.

She said, and I quote "We are looking to move quickly and make an offer when the interview, er, interviews are over."

But oh, goodness, that's a lot to do to get there in time. Find a home, get Z a school. We signed her up for dance last night, so that would change. Arrange the move, the $ for the move, yada yada yada.

I don't tailgate here, though, so I'll probably still stick to TV. Be a good chance to catch mens' basketball on the road, since we're going to Ole Miss this year.

Right now, I'm enjoying the crash course in preparing a course to present on Wednesday. It's not too tricky, and the lectures will be easy enough to prepare when I get there.
My adviser and I are doing a practice interview tomorrow night. It's coming together quickly.

This all sounds good! Plus experience makes getting a permanent job so much easier.

You can manage the move, I am sure they can help with the housing situation. If they won’t give moving expenses, CF fundraiser! Perhaps an easier move for Z since she hasn’t started school. Would be helpful if they have something like those visiting apartments ISU has at UV, sons had internships at Ames Lab and stayed in those.

Get the job, the rest will fall in place.

Hold on there, CG, one thing at a time ;)

First off, "We are looking to move quickly and make an offer when the interview, er, interviews are over."

Through Wednesday you just deal with the interview and getting to the step of an offer. If you get an offer, that's where you ask about moving assistance. If they are desperate, they will be willing to help someone who is uprooting their life in a short amount of time. I'm sure you know all this. But seriously, how exciting. Crossing my fingers for you - this sounds tailor made for you!

Also, on the subject of not getting ahead of myself, I'm relentlessly curious if this whole year would be an audition for something permanent.
If you read things about the historical field, it almost never is. It's just someone surprised and desperate filling a spot right now. But, they'll still need someone. Since they'll quite likely have a job search beginning while I'm there, I'll apply.

On more realistic stuff, getting hired once has to help in the search for something permanent. There's a lot of data that says it doesn't, but it has to be more helpful than getting nothing.

And they can't be interviewing too many people. Nobody interviews a ton of candidates, especially this late in the game.

The first 15 class periods are laid out. I have the next set of things to prep for the interview lined up.
I'm sure I've had a bad interview, but I can't remember one. Once they and I are talking about teaching, I know I have a real strong shot at this thing.

Unless you turn out to be a horrible teacher, I don't see how this doesn't help - especially since it's not like this is some never heard of rinky dink school.

What is the deal with the unsolicited richard pic? I have yet to get that one that made me think to myself, "well, crap, hari, maybe I should have gone out with that guy after all!"

So, after a few years of trying, but failing every time, to successfully go 4 weeks with good-looking, painted, natural fingernails... I gave in and tried a full set of powder (fake) nails. The clincher for me was getting a rip across my thumbnail, horizontally, somewhere between halfway down the nail bed and the cuticle. After waiting a couple of weeks for that thumbnail to repair itself and regrow to almost fully cover my nail bed, I went to the salon and had them put on some fakes.

First thought: wow, these look great!

More thoughts over the next few hours/days:
1. Hmm. I forgot my job involves lots of typing.
2. Hmmmm. How in the &%$@ do I unclasp my necklace?
3. OwWW. My eyeballs! How the hell do I get my contacts out?!
4. Seriously. First my necklace, now I can't put the backs of my earrings on either??
5. Well. There goes my grooming budget. I'm going to have to buy a bigger tub of Cerave, because half of this one is now stuck between my nails and my fingers.
6. Holy $&%@, i can't button my top?!? FML..
It's a learning curve! :D

And then you get to my age, where nails aren't the problem, arthritis is. Holy $&%@, i can't button my top or zip my pants! Looks like I'm doomed to elastic and pull-on tops...or PapaLew helping me get dressed.

I just realized - you haven't released the Kraken...er...HypnoDrones...yet. I'm out of marketing and heading toward space...maybe...
Yea, I decided to just not do that part, what fun is it to just make paper clips? Give me cold hard cash. Also I wondered how long this thing would just let me sit here accumulating. I've had it on autopilot since last night

Investments & marketing went away...I had to figure out how to get drones harvesting matter and creating wire out of it. I'm not sure what the hell I'm doing now. :)

I was at that point Friday night and it stopped on me when I went to get something to eat. I could not figure out how to get it restarted. Same thing Saturday morning so that's when I decided to just sit and make money.

I believe you're renting though, yes? My second-hand horror story was a friend from HS moving from a postion at Olivet Nazarene in Illinois to a similar position at Trivecca in TN. Something went haywire on the closing of the sale of their house in IL, and they REALLY wanted/needed to get down to TN because school started for their 3 boys on (get this) August 1.

And with Erik's story, that's inspired me to get my butt on to the computer and apply for the job I saw last week.

Pulling and praying for ya, @CycloneErik !

Yeah, we rent.
There's no close in our lease, allegedly, that involves breaking it for a long-distance move.
I also don't see any way that we're paying for a place back here if we're there.
