Update: I got my car back yesterday evening. They did a good job when they actually got around to it. Brakes are all fixed, check engine light is gone, and he even re-ground my front rotors because that needed done too (I knew it needed done before I took it in but I just hadn't said anything about it, and he asked if he could do it first so it wasn't like he was looking for extra things to charge me for). I went in to talk to him at lunch yesterday and he said, "we didn't know that you had a deadline for us to get this done but now that we know you need it we've got someone working on it" and he promised that it would be done by the end of the day. So, I reserve the right to not take my car back to him but at the end of the day my car is fixed, I'm not going to miss my trip, and the mechanic working on my car even came into the office from the shop and wished me a safe trip. So I shook his hand and let bygones be bygones. I've found that when I hold onto a grudge with someone it just ends up making me feel worse and they probably don't even know I'm upset so it's best to just forgive and forget and move on.
Well done, grasshopper. :)

Thinking back, we may have had to read some of those for English classes. I hated reading, at least books anyway, my sister was five years in front me and gave me all her book reports for everything. She was valedictorian of her class and got basically all A's on her reports. So I retyped them and somehow got B+s on them. I don't think the teacher liked me.

I graduated in 1973. I remember Lord of the Flies, 1984, Animal Farm, and at least one Shakespeare - Twelfth Night, I think?
I'm a voracious reader - I've read so many books over the years that I have no idea which of them were assigned!

You women talk about how much pain it is to give birth. You have no idea how uncomfortable blue balls make you. The pain is real!

You should probably head over to the ER now.

"Prolonged erection greater than 4 hours and priapism (painful erections greater than 6 hours in duration) have been reported infrequently since market approval of VIAGRA. In the event of an erection that persists longer than 4 hours, the patient should seek immediate medical assistance. If priapism is not treated immediately, penile tissue damage and permanent loss of potency could result."

When the ED pills first came out, some guy at Men's Health tested one out to write a report. Do not remember how he got one/some, but he wasn't in need of it he mentioned. Talked about "being ready" all weekend and it was getting irritating. Wonder if he has issues from trying to do a little article for a magazine.

I graduated in 76. Books we read in those 4 years that I can remember. I know there's more I just can't remember.
Black Like Me
Romeo & Juliet
Julius Caesar
1984
Lord of the Flies
Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
Animal Farm

Wondering when the last time I got a personal email was? Today: National MS Society, Macy’s, Minnesota Public Radio, National Audubon Society, Schwab, Reiman Gardens, Auto Anything, Bed Bath & Beyond, Amazon, American Express, Washington Post, Viking Cruises, Pelican Parts and Experian. And one Google Support phishing spam.

And people are all aghast that I don't access my email from my phone. Yeah, wouldn't want to miss anything import, eh?

Daughter in 7th grade read Animal Farm and one of Shakespeare's comedies for classics this year. (Had to recite a sililoquoy for class as well.) I think Lord of the Flies is on the docket for next year.

Yeah, I may check my email from my phone if I'm looking for something or I am out of the office all day on the job site. But after hours and all day every few minutes - hell no. If it is urgent, don't email it, call me -- I carry a cell phone, not a lap top.

When I was in high school we read Animal Farm and an abridged Les Miserables. Also a lot of other ones that I can't remember off hand. We did a version of 1984 for our spring play because it was - you know - 1984. I'm a nice guy, but I made a pretty scary O'Brien.

I do remember one other book we were supposed to read but I had senioritis and didn't read it. I got an A on my paper "Symbolism of the Color Red in The Red Badge of Courage" even though I had only opened it to skim for the word "red" and read the context around the reference. I should probably read it some day.

Going for the fourpeat.

We had an elective class that was called Individualized Reading that I took. It was heaven for a bookworm. You picked what you read and got credit for the number of pages. "Classics" gave you more credit than "Contemporary" so I read Tolkien, A Christmas Carol, David Copperfield, A Tale of Two Cities, Oliver Twist, The Clansman, Gone With the Wind as well as a bunch of Louis L'Amour and Stephen King and a bunch of other stuff. All you had to do was give an oral report to the teacher after each book. Your class time consisted of sitting in a room and reading. Easiest class ever.

Found one that can't be worth applying to.
Smaller school in Indianapolis hiring for a vaguely-defined (as in, they don't say what you'll be teaching) adjunct for Fall 2018. Sounds like fall only.

But they got a pet peeve in the ad. Applicant must show commitment to this uni's mission. I kind of agree, but you're only showing a 1 semester commitment. I just hate seeing that.

Hey @BoxsterCy i found a good a cappella swing version of your favorite song that’s really good.

I can’t stop seeing everyone dressed up though, and the dude on the right wearing black jeans as if that’s dressing up. It’s kind of making me furious.

In other entertaining news, a call for papers came out today for a conference I've never heard of.
Deadline for submission of abstract: tomorrow.

They're not really dealing with history beyond the last few decades, so I'll skip this one (before they skip me). Maybe a little more lead time for people to organize panels before the last-ditch late reminder would be a good thing.

Hospitals - I really like that urgent care is now a thing. I've done that a couple times for things that were not life-threatening but suuuuuuuuuuper duper annoying and happened on holiday/Friday (clinic couldn't fit me in). I've technically never gone to the ER though we did get to make a visit to OB triage when I got sick a couple months ago. That was something I never would have gone in non-pregnant for but between cramp pain + less baby movement they are like why don't you come down and we'll check.

so that song, assuming it's the current pop song. I refuse to believe it's not Rihanna singing that.
