Baby class stuff. So last night was more about care, sleep, and car seats.
So, it's like only give your baby milk the first 4-6 months. No juice, cow's milk, or soda. DH leans over and says "I didn't hear alcohol in that list" so we got a backup now if milk runs out.
They talked about feeding room temp vs. cold vs. heated and nurse lady is like I'd at least do room temp the first few days because newborns aren't good at temp regulation. I tell DH, but we're having a July baby and it will be hot. What about if baby is too warm, can we give a fridge temp bottle to act as coolant???????
^^^^^^this person is going to be responsible for another life shortly^^^^^^^^^
What is your plan for dealing with sleep deprivation/crying baby?:
DH: "hand baby to you"
Me: "wine"
They had a couple videos about the baby blues and postpartum depression. Which is no joke and I take seriously. The videos, however, were like a bad combo of a "thanks Obama" infomercial memes and D.A.R.E. videos they'd make you watch about how drugs r bad, mmmkkk? Or 90's sitcom-y. Like, the new mom was sad so her mom came in and asked her what was wrong. Baby mom goes, "oh, I'm just depressed today.". Grandmom goes "what can I do to help?" Baby mom: "you can watch baby for a while [hands off baby]." Then they both hug, baby mom smiles and relaxes into a nap that looks uncomfy AF because she's sitting up in bed against the pillow and headboard, like semi-slumped over into the headboard. You're on a bed, y u no lay down?????
I forget what made me think of Thanks Obama. I think it was about sleep deprivation and a parent getting mad about the baby tyrant ruling their lives. They did one of those faces and throwing of their hands that they do in those memes.
Anyway. I had said to DH I'm actually a bit concerned that I could be susceptible to PPD. So they're listing the symptoms of the baby blues and I'm like meh, we'll keep it in mind. They start listing the ones for PPD and I can feel DH's eyes boring into me.
"Anxiety"
DH: mmmmmmmm
"Excessive worrying"
D: HHHHHMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
"Irritable"
D: pokes my arm
"Inability to sleep"
D: "oh nevermind, you're fine"
then we spent time on car seats. We don't have ours yet but the girl next to us had the same car seat so we sidled up to her. What we learned is that DH should probably be putting both our babies in the car seat. Well, her husband might be good too but he's got a job that he can't attend most classes. Also, whoever was supposed to bring the sweet snack last night, failed to do so. Tsk tsk.
You always want the calmest one doing the car seat, whoever that would be.
It's really easy, but it takes a steady mind and hand to avert disaster.
