Didn't watch the video but what I learned with our last two was that the shushing works because in the womb the baby is used to hearing the body sounds especially heart and blood flow sounds and shushing mimics that. But it has to be loud because it is loud in the womb. Makes sense I guess because with no air in the womb a baby can't cry there so to take it back to the womb takes it back to where it is safe, dark and warm and there is no crying.

I think I read they can cry but with no sound. And yeah, his point was it should be loud cause that's how loud it is inside. I'm still like but that's so loud!

Going to try riding in a group tonight. Hoping this doesn't all end in tears of frustration and road bike workout shaming for me. High probability it will.

Meh. If you fall behind, "accidentally" get a flat tire and let them go on without you.

@harimad, What you've missed softball talk (a little) by Birdy & BC. Biking updates by Boxster (I haven't been out enough to matter). Baby class updates by CG (those have been fun) and cmjh is remodeling his house and getting a puppy. Jcyclonee is visiting many campuses but unluckily the daughter is leaning toward TOE:(.

So many things to do, so I stop and sit instead because I can't decide what to do next. DH said his text to me failed yesterday on answering about "things I like to do". first he said himself (optimistic emoji here) but then he said drinking, napping, putting things into totes/organizing, and hanging out with friends. This is mostly accurate.

He's back on the good list after he drove all the way across town tonight to get my fave ice cream for the shower this weekend. Nice husband.

Maybe I'll do dishes. I could do that.

Missed that last bit. JC, let us know the time and place for the intervention.

I was invited to play pick-up beach volleyball with some of my coworkers and their friends tonight. It was a lot of fun except for the fact that I haven't played volleyball since high school PE so it was a bit of a learning curve. Also, I found out about a lot of muscles I didn't know I had. I will definitely be sore tomorrow. The dinner and drinks afterwards made up for it though. I think this will be an every Thursday kind of thing so I could help fill the gap left by CG's kickball updates with some volleyball updates; although I doubt mine will ever be as entertaining as hers were!

We did the loud shushing. White noise apps also work in a pinch. Babies also like the weirdest positions to swing/rock while shushing--football hold with head way tilted down was preferred by one.

Dang you have lurked for a long time. glad VB was fun.

Four more hours of school left . . .

The 1st grader had her first softball games of the year, she had a blast. We got the biggest chuckle out of her playing catcher the first two innings. (Big sis has been a catcher for 5 years now and is in her 2nd year as varsity starter.) The equipment they had was way too big for the 7yr old, she barely moved behind the plate, and what balls she did kind of stop were because they hit her first. ;) Luckily big sis' games were cancelled tonight and she got to watch. She got the biggest kick out of seeing little sis attempt to be catcher. The two girls are 8yrs apart in age but they are spitting images of each other.

We celebrated with dinner at Hickory Park. We all ate way too much. Even at almost 8pm on a Thursday night there was a 15min wait, they had also run out of smoked sliced beef.
