Saw a squirrel this evening in the Mall of America parking ramp. Fully urbanized and butt diving in the cigarette receptacle.

At a friend of mine's bar they leave peanuts out for the squirrels. They will walk up and take them from your hand at times. They walk up every afternoon looking to see if anyone left them out.

Sounds like in a couple of yrs you can hire her as a baby sitter, sounds like a nice, responsible kid.

By the way have you ever flown a glider? There was one coming in for a landing at Ames when I drove by today, looked pretty neat.

I have not but have always wanted to. Also heard a guy talk about paragliding on a podcast yesterday so now I want to do that too.

Singular as in they only had one single song and just remixed it about 30 times
I consider myself to be a Boston fan but you're right about that. My favorite thing about Boston might be that they delayed the release of their third album because they wanted the the flying guitar on the cover to be drawn so that, conceivably, it could actually fly.

Boston had as distinctive a sound as I can remember. When their first single came out - "More Than a Feelin'" - I was sure they were going to be huge. "Long Time" is one of my all-time favorites. Then Tom Scholz started getting too big for his britches, and the band started to be fractured, and it showed in their music. That second album was as anticipated as any that I can recall, and it was pretty much a big disappointment.

And Brad Delp.....wow. I wish I had a voice like that.

@BoxsterCy you might have enjoyed what we've been doing for the past few hours. We had a forester out here and we were traipsing through the woods talking about what management we can do to improve tree growth and better manage the populations. One part is Basswood & shagbark hickory and a couple of white oak; one part is black maple, ash, elm, a grove of Kentucky coffee trees & a few shagbark; and the far side of the creek (a south facing slope) has a couple of white oak and shagbarks. There's a couple of trees out there that he estimates to be around 80-90 years old. :D
We have a lot of invasive mustard & honeysuckle, and a bunch of young maples...the older trees are, well, getting old, and the younger trees can't fight past the canopy. He's helping us write up a management plan and an environmental grant to see if we can establish an oak savannah on that south-facing slope, plus do some strategic cutting, goat rental, and controlled burn to improve our woodland acres.
I can saefly say that I had never heard of goat rental until I read this post.

As an FYI. There's some super-cute goat gifs out there.

Watched a Nat Geo special on the Super Guppy the other night which you would have liked. Didn't know one was still being flown by NASA. Learned you do not bank that old bird very much. Never knew what a Frankenstein craft this was. One of the pilots was also previously an astronaut. Very cool episode.

I believe that is the last one. I want to say they have used it to transport major components and rocket parts from the west cost to Cape Canaveral.

Waiting for the e-mail to arrive so I can send the ol' dissertation to the committee. Come on, e-mail!

But now it's time to prep for defense and return all those books.
I'm thinking of commandeering a cart at the library, and maybe bringing something for all the restockers. They're going to hurt themselves with all these books.

Ran out of grape jelly a couple days ago, and didn't get any bought until yesterday. Now the orioles are gone.....and the vixen is not happy with me.

Also, there was a little mouse scurrying around the deck, picking up sunflower seed shells and dropping them. The vixen hates mice, and is convinced he will be in the house soon. I said, "The only way he gets in here is if one of us lets him in." I don't think she believes me.
She's right. But I know this person that has an extra cat or two....

Remember tomorrow is Armed Forces Day - be sure and thank your family members and friends who have served this great nation in defense of all we hold dear.

Daughter Shelby was in the Marine Corps, and served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. She is 100% disabled (surgeries on neck, back, both knees, and feet) but still able to be active. We will be giving her a big party tomorrow for sure.

One of our sons is a captain in the Corps, with two tours in Afghanistan, one of them embedded with the Afghani army. He's a combat engineer. We have been lucky (and exceptionally grateful) that he has not been the recipient of a purple heart to this point.

Both of our military sons enlisted in spring/summer 2001. Great timing, right? USAF son did a tour in Baghdad and several deployments with "his" B-2's to Guam. He mustered out after 8 years as an SSgt.

Wish your daughter well for me - I'm glad she can still have an active life!

Our son went to some school in Wisconsin and learned to fly something that looks like a bastardized cross between an ultralight and a swingset...it has wings and an engine. And that's about it. Scares the crap outta me, but he loves it.
