I have four retired teachers in my family. One brother subs extensively, and is always happy when it is high school math, which he taught. When it is FCS, I pity the kids. There is such a shortage, you can sub any day you want. This is my brother who doesn't have kids of his own, so when he subbed for elementary PE and the teacher's lesson plan included, "Duck, duck, goose," he was at a loss. A first grader taught him what it is lol. They all sub some, and have all had long term sub stints when schools are desperate due to parental leave, deployment, etc.

It's good you and they made him legit make up the work. Our Algebra I teacher had to repeatedly give a kid another shot at a test he kept failing (kid qualified for state wrestling you know:rolleyes:) and finally one of my kids was deployed to tutor him too. The kid's dad was all, "this is BS, there is more to school than academics."
OY!
We had a lot of parents like that at our school. I was something of an anomaly.

:D,
Unluckily there are too many parents who think this way.

My plan when we moved back after I was laid off was to sub until I could find something new. My wife's grandfather is a retired teacher (74 or 75 years old I think) and he could sub pretty much every day if he wants. He always taught science so he has become the go to sub and especially long term sub for high school science at Linn-Mar.

The one stipulation for the non-education degree subs are you can't do long term, but I'm sure you could still do everyday around a district. I may do the same thing once kiddos are all in school full time, we'll see. I actually had a teaching license in MN when I worked since I was in the schools as a speech therapist. The preschool teachers here say they have a hard time finding people who will sub preschool. I worked in preschool, so I would prefer that over HS for the most part. Especially since a lot of the freshmen prob know who I am.

I get to go to a 1030 soccer game tomorrow versus a team that beat the hell outta my daughter's team in August. I'm hoping they can keep it within 5, but I'm not betting on it.

I plan to get home in time to catch most of the football game. I'm hoping for a reversal of beatdown fortunes.

Washing down a huge tenderloin with a stout is a really bad idea. I feel like I ate a week's worth of food in one sitting.

"For dessert, I'd like to order a slice of regret please."
