ISU Class of 77? (I went to little Waldorf College and got my AA degree.)
Wazzu, should've been '77, dropped out to get my MRS halfway through my junior year. Got my PhT, then life and kids got in the way and I never bothered to go back & finish it up.
I've worked for ISU since 1983; I'm a Cyclone by an alternative route. :)

If that's it, you're in good shape.

I know know my son listens to me. As he is loopy here on anesthesia, he says something goofy, I tell him to go back to sleep and he shuts up and goes back to sleep.

What you should have done was live post the things your son said in his medicated state.

I would do this late at night in college when my roommate would talk in her sleep...post 'em on the interwebs.

But I have no friends on Facebook and Twitter. And nobody follows me on chatsnap and instantgrammy.

Reading an article in prep for a discussion I'm covering as a sub on Friday.
Read this thing a few times. Tonight I was reading the footnotes, because I like to do that, and I can't help but notice that maybe 80% of this guy's footnotes cite himself and other (legitimate) things he's written.

Good article. Something not many people spend their time researching, but wow, he cites himself a lot.

I'm just curious but is that normal to cite yourself. Maybe for smart people but if I ever cited myself for anything important I would immediately discount the article.

Was leaning towards asking people over to watch the Akron game Saturday morning since we are not doing a club gamewatch and not everyone gets CBS Sports Net. Now leaning to "not" cause I'd have to clean up some and when people come over they expect food and ****. So work. I wouldn't mind watching the game but I don't feel like working at it.

It generally depends.
In this case, he's the leading guy working on studies of slave nutrition, so his articles and such are most of what's out there. He cites a good # of others, but it's a whole lot of him.

Normally, it would look really shady. Like if I wrote a biography about Washington and only cited myself, when there are obviously hundreds of other authors to deal with. This guy doesn't have that body of literature to work with, so he kind of has to build on his own work.

Great news, he survived and we are home. He seems to be perking up a little more. When doctor came in, he said the MRI was off and the LCL and MCL were fine, but the meniscus was torn and about 40-50% he shaved off. I looked at the kid and could read him perfectfully even though he was still a little off. The only reason he couldn't play a few more games was because his meniscus was supposed to be fine. He was mad that the surgery didn't get held, although I'm glad it's done and time to move forward.

Btw, never ate at tico, sister said it wasn't good so I just never tried it.

So happy for you guys. Son bounced right back from the meniscus last year. Mine wasn't as bad and did not have surgery, but I think it's back to what it should be. My brothers have started needing their knees replaced between their own sports, coaching, and umpiring, so I baby my knees, what between my own sports and pregnancies. Cause replacement seems unpleasant.

I have to be honest. Some of the stuff you get into...

I'm subbing for someone teaching a Food History class.
They're at a conference and this is my sort of thing. Even with the morbidity of it, it's kind of cool just to see how many avenues historians approach things from, and it adds one more layer of horrible to the experience of slavery.

EDIT: I should add that the most visibly happy historians seem to dwell in the darkest subjects. That's a phenomenon I don't understand. The other happiest one I know spends his time studying genocide. He also runs marathons, and just did Boston this year.

Thanks for inviting the RTT gang. I'll bring some smoked brisket and a couple cases of Pabst. Who else is showing up, folks?

At my age and income, just going to duct tape a couple bungee cords where they say the hurt ligament is if I get hurt.

The great debate: hipster or redneck.

My husband kept telling me last year that it was ok, would be getting all that flex account money. Just costs way too much to fix human parts. You sound like my engineer boys with the duct tape and bungee cords.

This sounds familiar. Husband takes a dozen to work every day and leaves them in the break room. Chili, salsa, spaghetti, goulash. I have even started making baked tomatoes lol. Only I slice them, spice them, throw them in a little olive oil, and roast them. Pretty good with a little parmesan cheese on top.

No tomatoes for Boxster. Too shady in my neighborhood and lost the work freebees. Did just check and see that my city has a market on Sundays...might have to make a run over.
