I know we have some horror buffs on RTT (yes I'm thinking of you, pants) and I was wondering if any of you has ever read the book "The Legend of Hell House" by Richard Matheson. One of scariest books I have ever read - right up with some of King's best work.

Matheson was most famous for having written "The Incredible Shrinking Man".
Yes, I have read The Legend of Hell House and it was very good, as well as quite a few other Richard Matheson books and short stories. I have a pretty extensive library of horror books and have watched a TON of horror movies. That is my jam. Unfortunately, I have packed all our books away, since we are in the process of moving soon. Once I move, will let you know some good recommendations from among my collection. Nothing very new there. I'm a sucker for gothic/victorian era horror and fantasy/horror.

On a related note, I recently bought the entire first season of "Masters of Horror" that aired on Showtime. Some of the episodes sound pretty good, I'm getting stoked to watch it. Do you or @GTO have any experience with this series?
I think I've seen most of them as standalones, never the whole series. Can't tell for sure if I've seen them all, but do remember liking most of them.

I have not, though I loved I Am Legend (I just ignore the **** show that was the movie). I might have to check this out. Also, @GTO is an even bigger buff. Had a horror thread that's kind of died now, but has a billion good recomendations in it.
We should revive that thread. I since have watched quite a few movies that I can recommend. It just seems like I got way too busy the past few months.

One HELL of a story. Definitely Lovecraftian in its prose. Thanks for sharing!!!!
If you're a fan of Lovecraft, Night Shade Books published a complete series of Clark Ashton Smith's stories which are very good. I got all 5 volumes as they were coming out one at a time. Highly recommended.

I recently bought a large tome entitled "The Complete Works of H. P. Lovecraft". Working my way through it slowly. His horror is so calculated......

@GTO Have you read Thomas Harris' novels (Hannibal Lecter)? What a careful writer he is! It takes me almost twice as long to read one of his books, kind of like Cormac McCarthy.

Joys of freshman volleyball. Watch the daughters team lose first set something like 7-25 but come back to win the next 25-19.
My daughter lost in doubles last night 7-6 (11-9), 4-6, 5-7 in 2 hours and 40 minutes. It was really exciting and intense and ended the meet with both teams other players cheering each pairing on.

Afterwards, my daughter said this, "The one girl was snarky, shouted at me about a call she thought was wrong-which wasn't, mocked our team as they were cheering for us and on top of it all, she was really ugly. I know I shouldn't say that but she was and she's really bugging me right now." I was left speechless as I've never really heard my daughter be catty before.

When I finally came up with something to say, it was "And the other girl on the team had abnormally small feet." This may not have been our family's proudest moment but I think we'll remember this for awhile.

It can be quite the daunting task to try to keep up. Sometimes I miss a day or two, but it is pretry easy to pick back up once you know the regulars. Has CG already given you the new member interrogation?
@cowgirl836 - I have one request for this interrogation. To find out if @SCyclone is actually from Fort Dodge, ask if he likes Taco Tico. If he says "no" or even "it's alright" we'll know he's an imposter.

Not exactly sure.

If that's it, you're in good shape.

I know know my son listens to me. As he is loopy here on anesthesia, he says something goofy, I tell him to go back to sleep and he shuts up and goes back to sleep.

Can't say I have. Honestly, I haven't been reading as much as I used to read before I had kids.

The worst tennis fans are the ones that try to call the lines wrong for the players.

Remember the old song and singer Rico Suave? Looking at this pain chart, for the word mild it has Suave below (Spanish words below I assume).

So he was bragging about being mild? Kinda kills the song.
