Wx, I know your kids are going to be really little for a while, but I would suggest waiting till they were in their late single digits or early teens and take them then. I never got to go to DC until I was in my late 20's and hope to go back again and see more of it.

I agree with high single digits, low double digits being a good time. My wife took my 6-yo for spring break and they had a blast. He especially liked the audio tour of the art museum, the air&space and natural history museums - and the zoo, of course. He didin't have the attention span to spend a ton of time in each, but they had fun. They also have a nice $1 bus loop around the monuments now so you don't have to walk it all.

Dayum! I thought mine was bad after a week...but it's usually only in the 100s (unless I make the mistake of being in the hospital during busy season, in which case, I had over 1000 emails to sort through while convalescing at home).

Before I boast about Z, we are rehydrating while watching Dumbo. I didn't remember about the alcohol tainted water the elphant drank and the resulting dream he had......

Told Z it was due to tainted water....

My wife was driving with my son this week and listening to the White Album. She wasn't really paying attention to what song was playing when he piped up from the back seat "Why don't we do WHAT in the road? He keeps saying "Why don't we do it in the road", but he never says what.". My wife said - what do you think he means? to which my son responded "well if it was me, I wouldn't be in the road. That's what I would do - nothing. Because you shouldn't be there"

I was the kid who would try anything and eat anything. One time my Mom found a recipe for peanut soup and made it and even her stalwart "I'll eat anything!" kid wouldn't eat it. I tried one spoonful and declared that I couldn't stomach it trying to not hurt her feelings. She agreed with all of us and threw it out. To this day it is the only food that I won't even try if it comes down the pike.

As far as peanut sauces, Mrs. Velo makes chicken skewers that are marinated in a peanut sauce and there is extra for dipping when served. I've found that when I bring them as leftovers in my lunch I end up dipping pretty much everything in my lunch in the peanut sauce.
Big fan of Thai peanut sauces here. However, I don't like chopped up nuts in my food. That just doesn't seem right to me.

The local KFC will post on its sign "Livers and gizzards" often. I ALWAYS want to read it "Lizards and Gizzards".

My father-in-law will cook walleye cheek...still tastes like walleye

If you're ever in the Brainered area, Morey's Seafood Market makes great Walleye cheeks. Also, making them at home is really easy. Because of their size, they cook completely in about a minute.

My food I refuse to eat is liver. Can't do it. Also can't eat pig's feet, gizzards, or any other weird animal organs.
I know they're not the healthiest thing in the world but I like myself some deep-fried gizzards. Yes, the rubbery texture is a bit unusual, but I just really enjoy them. My MIL was a big fan, too. Part of the enjoyment was probably the looks we'd get from my wife for eating something so disgusting.

You have to ask? I am guessing that the dicks who made this "ruling" would not have if she was a white blond girl with a name like Johnson. For them though, two birds with one stone. It's the new America. :( Surprised they didn't ask for her immigration status.

Do like the Team USA response and invite.

I woulda lost my **** if I was the father in that scenario. My little girl is 8 and good enough to be one of the best players on an 11-year old team and you disqualify the team because she "looks like a boy"? I guarantee some parents of a team that lost to her team complained about them having a boy playing for them and caused this whole mess. The fact that the tournament organizers didn't stick up for an 8 year old girl is appalling.

And yes, the USWNT responses were first class.

My son's baseball team won 21-2 last night. The weather was perfect but the game just dragged on forever. The other team just couldn't do anything right. The pitchers couldn't throw strikes (5 of our players were hit by pitches and at least that many pitches went behind the batter's back), they couldn't catch a fly ball and they couldn't make an accurate throw to first base. I don't personally know the coach of the other team but I know his brother well and he's a super likable guy. Instead of being happy our team won, I just felt bad for the other team.

I saw this on the local news last night. It's bad enough they made the mistake but to stand by their decision after seeing the insurance card just compounded it.

College softball World Series game went 17 innings last night. A dropped fly at the end of regulation sent it into extra innings. An Iowa gal was the winning pitcher--pitched 5.1 to start the game and another 5 to end the game.

This may not be quite as bad as it seems. Evidently, there was an error on the team-submitted registration that stated she was a boy. Yes, the organizers could have accepted the insurance card as proof that an error was made, but it doesn't seem as though any kind of blatant bigotry was involved.
