So they put the girls on one bus and the boys on another. And apparently the Dells wasn't far enough way to go to, which is weird because Six Flags is closer to us than the Dells. Then, the girls' bus went 45 minutes in the wrong direction on the way there.

The 8th graders here can take the school trip to Washington D.C. They used to take buses, but now they fly. Some kids said the bus ride was the best part, other times buses would break down and it was miserable.

hiked a trail today that was a wee bit more dangerous than I expected. We lived, but when Scots/Brits say "a bit of scrambling", they aren't ******* around. Inches from drops into a gorge that you wouldn't come out of. Was pretty though. Started raining as we got done so couldn't do the other one with safer views of the Loch. Going to see if we can squeeze in some of it tomorrow to at least take pics.

Also drove down Glen etive yesterday which is where some shots from skyfall were done. Didn't get the exact shot but just gorgeous. Glencoe is unbelievably beautiful if you like the mountains and lake type scenery. Our b&b is right on a loch with a view of the hills/mtns on the other side. Just stunning. I could live here.

Opposite here. They used to fly but now take busses. My sister went in 8th grade which would have been in 2000 and they flew. My parents were chaperones so I stayed with my grandpa. When they got back was the only time I remember meeting someone at the gate. Obviously that changed a year and a half later. When it was my turn in 2004 it was a bus trip.

My sister said there's a rumor that girls and boys teams will be on separate buses next year for away games if they are both going to the same place. Will this apply to field trips too? And all grades? They'll probably take 2 planes for the DC trip next year. Can't have the 8th graders joining the mile high club.

MrsWx and I probably ruined it for them on our HS band and choir trip to Disney...

I feel like I should clarify this. It wasn't anything bad other than what any other teenage couple would do sitting next to each other for 24 hours straight. There was another couple that was rumored to have sex but I am not sure if that was true or not. They are also married now though so #winning?

I hate bus trips and have to say it played a factor in me quoting marching band at ISU and working for the football team full time. They do it to save money but damn it sucks. For the last insight bowl we spent 27.5 hours one way on the bus and about the same on the way back. Thankfully the athletic department got us Windstar so we had decent busses with TV's instead of the crappy company out of Ames. Our bus still broke down though and had to stop due to over heating every once in awhile. It spent the entire time in Phoenix in the shop and we just stood in the aisles of other busses to get around.

For the Pinstripe bowl they were only in NYC for about a day and a half to two days due to busing. One of those was mostly taken up by game activities. Meanwhile the AD charters two 737s for team, staff, and other AD employees to take to bowl games. Most players get flown on the airlines though as they don't want to go to/from DSM in the middle of break. Traveling with the team was awesome.

Other little known fact band members are not allowed to drink regardless of age on band trips. Players can on designated nights though and we did as staff every day.

Well it is a girl. I guess my flying budget is gone forever now.

I thought you had a few weeks to go, was this one of those gender reveal party things? But if she's early and doing well congrats.
